It's time to defy health-care mandates issued by bureaucrats not in the healing profession.
In my 23 years as a practicing physician, I've learned that the only thing that matters is the doctor-patient relationship. How we interact and treat our patients is the practice of medicine. I acknowledge that there is a problem with the rising cost of health care, but there is also a problem when the individual physician in the trenches does not have a voice in the debate and is being told what to do and how to do it.
As a group, the nearly 880,000 licensed physicians in the U.S. are, for the most part, well-intentioned. We strive to do our best even while we sometimes contend with unrealistic expectations. The demands are great, and many of our families pay a huge price for our not being around. We do the things we do because it is right and our patients expect us to.

to the PATIENT.
Today, the physicians take an oath to the State,
to kill their patients when required, to ignore their
health as demanded, and to focus on whatever

My health plan at work is being cancelled end of May. The new, obamacare compliant plan being offered will cost MORE THAN three times as much per week. At this point, I’m simply going to go without insurance and pay as you go.

However, I live in a small town. All the doctors I visit and all my mother’s doctors were adamantly opposed to “O” care...in our discussions.
(The only doctor who actually supported the thing was an Arabic/iraqi orthopaedic guy, who has since been ‘removed’ under a cloud... no one knows where or why.)
In any case, I am saying... much as these guys opposed “O” care privately, I never saw or heard mention of their concerted and public objections.
Why?

BINGO! Where were all the doctors? Obama dressed some people up in white coats and surrounded himself with them at the White House, swearing they were real and they supported Ocare. Never mind that none of us knew one doctor personally who thought Ocare was ethical or would work. But docs are not well-organized. The AMA represents itself and its medical coding contract with the feds, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, not doctors. Still, I agree with you about feeling betrayed by docs who invested money in the electronic medical records systems in order to keep high reimbursements. Well, those docs will learn the feds rarely keep their promises to pay individuals! Reports today talk about how Medicaid cuts are needed because the expanded Medicaid program in the states worked a little TOO expansively.....

The rank and file physicians have been protesting all along. The corporations that own most hospitals and practices take a dim view of any outspoken physician who protests the intrusion of government into medicine. Such a physician would be punished by being labeled 'disruptive', or 'negative'. He would lose his job.
Trust me that an iron curtain has descended on most hospitals and practices, and it is because the suits have taken over medicine.
In addition to the doctors, the nurses have been protesting all along. But with the American press being a part of the US Government nowadays, you would never know it. Look around on the net and you will see lots of blogs. But on CNN? Of course you will see no unhappy doctors or nurses.
I can't blame you. My only concern with that is the possibility of a catastrophic illness or accident, but just get treatment they can't deny you and go into bankruptcy.
Our small ER group fought hard against the electronic medical records when proposed and instituted in our hospital’s emergency room.
The hospital was paid 1 million dollars by the Feds to institute the electronic medical record, and we got to muddle through the nonsense, clicking boxes to try to make a coherent medical record that used to take 5 minutes to write or dictate which now consumes up to half an hour to place into the medical record electronically.
It is an absolute nightmare. Distracts us from thinking about our patients, you know that poor soul on the gurney.
When we complain to the administration their line is, “You’ll get used to it.”
Well, it has been 3 years and I am still not used to it.
When you ‘get used to it’, it will be revised and upgraded... so you can ‘get used to it’, ALL OVER AGAIN!
I am sure it has been made uncomfortable for those who protest — but now those who didn’t protest (because they might lose their jobs) will really find out what being uncomfortable means (they are going to lose them anyway)! It is the typical frog in the pot, raise the heat slowly problem. At no point was there a critical mass of doctors and nurses protesting “the suits” — because if they had, things would be different today. Opportunity missed!
