Ukip has surged into the lead in the European election contest despite a bruising week of controversies, a poll revealed today.
Nigel Farage's party recorded 31 per cent support in YouGov research for a Sunday newspaper, three points ahead of Labour, with the Tories languishing in third on 19 per cent.
It is the first time the company has given Ukip an outright advantage in the race, with ballots due to be cast in less than a month.

Great to hear Sand88,
far from perfect but you know where he stands, you know he loves his country and sees most of the obvious problems the rest want to sweep under the carpet and that is so refreshing.
I pray this is so. Is the Internet helping get the word out to the average British citizen?
Are the social networks mostly filled with positive statements about Nigel?
People the world over need to understand that governments are filled mostly with sadistic control-freaks.
Liberty is a precious gift that few appreciate in government respect...
And he’s a smoker and doesn’t care. :)
If you believe the claims...by the government and others...that your economy has improved noticeably in the last few years and that that improvement is expected to accelerate then there's your motive to do so.At least in next year's elections...not necessarily the election next month.
And yes,you did survive those 13 years. But you were in the intensive care unit on the day they were expelled. What was the note that that Treasury official left in his drawer on his way out of his office for the last time..."all the money's gone, sorry" I think it was.Reports I've seen suggest that you're out of intensive care today but still in a serious condition. And the prospect of the doctors who put you in that condition in the first place will soon be back on the case looms on the near horizon.
One could make the same argument for Obama and the American economy. Would you vote for him?
One only needs to look into it with a bit more of an eye for detail and you will see it is built on the same kind of shaky foundations.
Certainly they have done some good things in terms of cutting wasteful spending (fractionally), but they still believe in a lot of the nonsense their labour counterparts do that have caused this problem in the first place.
It is a mixture, unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, the younger population is not particularly pro UKIP.
After all, they are not pushing gay marriage and the green agenda. They are not ‘cool’. Not such a big problem, these people don’t tend to vote.
But as a ‘fan’ of UKIP on Facebook, they have risen by tens of thousands of ‘likes’ this year, today almost hitting 90k, just 3k short of the Lib Dems the third party here. I predict by the next election they will be the most popular party in terms of social media endorsements, although that will play a fairly minor role here.
It’s a mixed bag, a lot of vocal support and opposition.
Internet and especially youtube vids of Nigel Farage have given them huge exposure and so far it is paying off.
I love how he got a position on the EU council in order to constantly and consistently SLAM them at every opportunity!!!
Lovin’ the comments section at the Daily Mail.
Well, chin up! I have great hopes for UKIP. Btw, keep us posted and I’ll try to find a few cans of “Boddie’s” over here in the US so I can share a pint with ya’ on election day!
If you have a ping list would you add me, please? Thanks!
Yeah the Mail have been doing all the can to smear UKIP for their Tory bosses, but it isn’t working and the readership is largely pro UKIP.
But certainly do, I’m confident of a good night.....as for a ping list, something I have been thinking of, I did one a few years ago and it go quite a good following, I’ll maybe start a UKIP one following these elections!
I am hopeful we will see Nigel Farage as the PM of Britain.
Hey, when you’re done with Nigel...could we borrow him on this end of the Pond?
I’ve watched that one more than a few times.
The look on dishrag bank clerk Von Rompuy’s face probably made the fine (was it 3,500?) worth every penny.
Who ever heard of Von Rompuy, anyway? Farage noted. (Now, that’s scary: An MEP hadn’t heard of the guy they were installing to lead them? What Master does he serve?!)
Add to that we have the fact that Baroso was a Maoist, and there is video on YouTube where a younger Baroso (I call him Baboso = drooling idiot) was leading a college demonstration of Maoists. And he’s also helping lead the EU.
Can’t make this stuff up.
Yeah, Baroso seems like a real head case.
Yeah, Baroso seems like a real head case.
That's what he thought.
I laughed. I tried to explain to him that we weren't at all insecure. I questioned why he thought he had to turn against, or at least compare the EU to, America. (That showed that it was they who were insecure, and had that chip on their shoulder.)
So, he put it bluntly: why are so many Americans opposed to the EU?
I told him it wasn't a strong united European economy we feared. It was the very charter of the EU, its founding documents, statements by its leaders. At its founding core, there was no basis, nor defense of, individual human rights at the same level in which they exist in our Bill of Rights.
It was the potential for future dictatorship that we opposed, and we Americans were warning them they were marching too quickly, blindly, into the arrangement.
Good report and very encouraging.
Thanks, UKrepublican.
Voting for UkIP in the euros next month.
As for the General election...will need to review the manifesto carefully.
UKIP bump for later...
Hopefully Britain is making plans for Nigel.
*chuckle* , oh, yeah!
