The courts are protecting the egos at the hospital.
They don’t give a damn about the girl or the family.

This case sickens me. It reeks all the way up to weasel Patrick’s office now. It’s a national outrage. But very little national coverage, from what I’ve seen.

they are hoping she dies and makes the point moot. If she dies they are safe. If they release her, and she gets better under her parent’s doctor’s care, their evil will be obvious to everyone.

I dont think she can get better. I believe that the disease damages the nervous system when untreated. I she does get better it will take years and some of the damage will be permanent.

I’ll have to do some checking, but IIRC there was a habeus corpus action filed somewhere (in MA?) that would have forced the state to enlighten the court on the ‘facts’ of the case and the concerns over the child’s health and welfare.
At the time, that sounded like a very good ‘next step’.

What has Connecticuts governor been doing about this case?
He should be in Gov. Deval Patrick office screaming about a citizen of his state being held against her will in the commonwealths torcher chambers without trial or due process.

The new fad for “somatoform disorder” has every parent with a chronically-ill child worried.

the quack at Childrens who diagnosed her in a couple minutes needs to be firedIn a case like this one, whatever the opinions of the original treater were, they have been reviewed and confirmed by his senior, by a chiefs panel, by the board, by house counsel, and by CRICO.
It is possible that they are all wrong, but that's not the way to bet.

There is actually a strong basis for suing the hospital for rushing to make this diagnosis. Another child with mitrochondrial disorder was slapped with that somatoform diagnosis and the family dealt with child protective services, though the child is with the family.
And there are several other cases of the hospital calling in child protective services when the family disagreed with the doctor.

The new fad for somatoform disorder has every parent with a chronically-ill child worried. I didn't realize it had reached the level of a fad. Could be -- isn't the BCH psychiatrist who started all this doing "research" to prove somatoform disorder is the true cause of 50% of childhood illnesses?
