When an employee tells their boss, “Do you want it done right, or do you want it on time.”

The boss’s usual reply is, “I want it done right AND on time, and if you can’t manage that, let me know and I’ll replace you with someone that can.”

Unless the work is routine, and the boss has objective performance standards available, s/he is just bullying or dreaming, or some combination.

A smart boss knows the “project management triangle” — “cheap, fast, good — chose two”.
