An American journalist for Vice News is being held captive by pro-Russian gunmen following his reporting on the turmoil in Ukraine.
Simon Ostrovsky had covered the conflict over Crimea for weeks and went missing Tuesday. His disappearance is the latest example of a crackdown on journalists by Russia and its supporters, prompting a warning from the U.S. State Department.

We call on Russia to use its influence with these groups to secure the immediate and safe release of all hostages in eastern Ukraine, said spokeswoman Jen Psaki, who noted that such actions are in violation of a commitment by Russia and Ukraine made last week in Geneva.
A spokeswoman for the pro-Russian insurgents told the Associated Press that Ostrovsky was suspected of bad activities. She added, Hes with us. Hes fine.
Last month, a Bulgarian journalist and other reporters were held at gunpoint in Crimea. That followed the closure of Black Sea TV, Crimeas only independent channel. Other journalists have been confronted by armed men, beaten and detained.
Didn’t he and his cam man get roughed up by the Russkies recently for filming checkpoints?
Perfect, thanks.
I don’t like people who emulate the Left and make accusations without a shred of backup. It would be one thing if it were CBS, who are well-known leftists to anyone with a brain. But there are plenty of new media outlets that are at least Libertarian leaning, and this could have been one of them. Hey, at least they had someone on the ground in a tough area reporting, which is more than you can say for the OMG (Obama Media Group, AKA the lamestream media).
I have no sympathy for anyone going to foreign nations. This nation was created for us. If you want our rules and law you stay here. If you want theirs, fine, but don’t complain when bad things happen.
This might be embarrassing to Obama!?!? These Journalist should dutifully bight the bullet (or the pillow) and say something less provacative like they are “reluctantly embedding” with pro-Russians.
So the CIA never uses journalists a spies or has fronts?
All journalists are spies. My bad. /s
