The Nordic setting and the feudalism made me think it was an old Nordic folk tale, but Hans Christian Andersen fits right in there.
I was expecting one of the characters to say “Yompin’ Yimminee” while watching it.
As a previous poster said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
