Now is a great time to be home-building. Modern RF electronics that you can get off the shelf are like complete science fiction, compared to when I got my first ticket. Yes, I know what B+ voltage is.
Problem is that you almost have to have a special soldering station and a stereo microscope to build anything. ;)
