Gosnell movie may focus on forgotten ‘heroes’, filmmaker tells Rush Limbaugh Show

PHILADELPHIA, April 22, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The forthcoming made-for-TV film about the life and crimes of “house of horrors” abortionist Kermit Gosnell may focus less on his grotesque office and macabre butchering tactics than on the story's forgotten heroes, one of the filmmakers told The Rush Limbaugh Show this afternoon.

Ann McElhinney, one of three principals behind the proposed $2.1 million made-for-TV “true crime” film about Gosnell, said people are rightly horrified by Gosnell's practice of “snipping” infants born alive with scissors.

But they forget that, even in one of the most gruesome stories in American abortion history, “there were heroes.”

“There was one woman, a 27-year-old,” McElhinney told guest host Erick Erickson, a blogger at RedState.com. “She said, 'What happened to the babies'” who are aborted? “Gosnell told her, 'We burn them.'”

After the young woman said she wanted to reverse the three-day, late-term procedure, Gosnell's “first reaction was, 'You're not getting your money back...your $1,300 back.'” Nonetheless, the woman gave birth, she said.

“That child is now in a kindergarten in Philadelphia,” the Irish documentarian said. “That could be the final scene in our film.”

Other heroes may include crusading journalists who exposed the story, she said.

There were writers like “Mollie Hemingway, like Kirsten Powers, who was heroic.”

Hemingway, the “Get Religion” blogger at Patheos, pressed journalists in the mainstream media about why they were ignoring the horrific details of the Gosnell case.

Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers, a liberal feminist Democrat but also a believing Christian, took to USA Today to note the lack of media coverage. “Infant beheadings. Severed baby feet in jars. A child screaming after it was delivered alive during an abortion procedure. Haven't heard about these sickening accusations?” she asked.

Her column proved a turning point. Followed by a successful Twitter campaign, media outlets like CNN gave the story belated notice. Fox News ran a one-hour special on the abortionist.

But a picture of the courtroom's empty media section embodied the media's typical reaction, McElhinney said.

“They gave us wall-to-wall coverage of the Jody Arias case,” she told Erickson.

“Gosnell killed more people than Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacey, The Zodiac Killer, and Ted Bundy combined,” the producers told LifeSiteNews by phone.

The resultant media blackout led former Hercules star Kevin Sorbo and his wife, Sam, to endorse the Gosnell film. “This story has had almost no media coverage, because the media are so agenda-driven they don't want to talk about it,” Kevin Sorbo, a rare Hollywood conservative, said. “Nobody wants to talk about it, because the details are too damaging to certain political agendas.”

McElHinney told Erickson today that, in addition to Gosnell and his employees, there were other villains like former Pennsylvania Governor and first Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge. Both the grand jury and Gosnell defense attorney Jack McMahon cited the pro-abortion governor's decision not to inspect the state's abortion facilities as paving the way for Gosnell's horrors. McElhinney pointed out “a Republican governor – a Republican governor – said, 'Hands off here.'”

McElhinney, Phelim McAleer, and Magdalena Segeida went public with their goal to make a docudrama about the Gosnell case on March 31.

As of this writing, they have raised $1.17 million toward their final budget through heir Indiegogo.com page. They have 21 days left to raise the balance.

Two unmistakable trends:

1. The rise of an American “Samizdat” —the new media that reports what is REALLY going on, while that reality goes ignored by the whole MSM establishment.

2. The rise of a small, new, conservative Hollywood operating in parallel to the liberal one, but as if in an alternative moral galaxy.

I have an abortion loving son (It’s about choice, you know) that I completely cut off and now disown after I read about Gosnell.

Well, this will be an issue, because if it’s “made for tv,” it won’t see the light of day. The movies such as “Expelled,” “No Intelligence Allowed,” “Undefeated,” and “America 2016” came because they went straight to audiences in THEATERS. I can’t think of one network, including the satellite/cable networks, that would run a Gosnell movie.

Be a father, not an enemy. Your Father in heaven does not turn his back on you when you displease him. Recall the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Pray for you son. More importantly, recall the words Christ put in the mouth of the prodigal son’s father, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.” (John 15:32)

I refuse to be treated like dirt. I don’t think the Prodigal Son called his father names because he loves gays and abortions.
