“University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman and admissions director Ted Spencer have decried the affirmative action ban, saying outright that the school cannot achieve a fully diverse student body with it in place.”

How kind of them to want to ‘help’ out all those poor stupid folks who can’t get in otherwise. Golly gee seems to me that IF they cannot attract folks to their college/university then maybe they ought to try looking harder.

Michigan public schools are miserable just like California’s. No wonder people don’t ‘qualify’ to get into the state university when the teachers unions have so ill prepared them for life and future education

University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman and admissions director Ted Spencer should both be fired for putting diversity over education.

It’s the students who will suffer because Jamal cannot read and you have to pay 60 grand a year to subsidize Jamal.

They seem to think that diversity is their primary objective.

Meanwhile, at U-M the Black Student Union and other student groups have condemned low minority enrollment at the school and demanded 10 percent black representation on campus. The demand is a leap from the existing 4.6 percent black enrollment, but it is in line with promises the university made to black students in the 1970s.

Define "black". Define "minority". Define "diversity". Then, define "achievement".

Follow the money. If they can get people who would not otherwise qualify for admission in under other protocols such as "diversity", think of all the money from Federal programs, student loans, Pell Grants, etc. that can be lapped up. Otherwise, they are stuck with people who actually qualify academically as students--the type who just might question the Party Line and be troublesome...and a lot less money.
