An accused street gang member standing trial in federal court in Salt Lake City was shot to death by a deputy U.S. marshal on Monday as the defendant attacked a witness who was testifying against him, federal law-enforcement officials said.
Siale Angilau, 25, lunged at the witness wielding what appeared to be a pen or pencil in his hand, prompting a federal officer in the courtroom to open fire to halt the attack, according to Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

With all the extra ammo they’ve purchased for ‘practice’, I’m wondering 2 things: Hit percentage and where the other rounds went.
You know....20 years ago I would have said “good shooting”. But now, with a lot of police having the “us vs. them” mentality and the huge uptick in really senseless violence against dogs and suspects—I’m really at a loss on what to think here.

Really hard to judge the right course of action without having been there. Sounds like shooting to protect a witness might have been the best option.

I think I know what you are saying.. he was shot attacking someone with a pen. That being said, this was a gang trial. In our area, we have gang activity. The courts take extra precaution.. simply because they are beyond ruthless. The defendant attacked a witness against him. I did a little research on the Tonga Crip gang.. Polynesian, started in California, spread to Utah and is ruthless. IMHO... I won’t lose any sleep over it.

I believe they were all BLM employees and contract thugs. This is not a case wherein I am against what happened, in fact the opposite. This clown was trying to stab a witness against him. IMO, when these type POSs, like the Tongan Cripp get to the court room, they should have a silhouette type uniform on with a ten ring around their chest and upper back.
Me too. Yes great we got rid of some scum, but what happens when they say we are the scum? Law enforcement should use least force necessary.

Violent criminal defendant, in court, no shackles, cuff or table restrained? Sounds like the court was asking for the guy to attack like the feral animal he appears to have been.
