“Article V, Constitutional Convention supporters — watch out. We could lose the 2nd Amendment.”
That would require that a large number of state legislatures send representatives to the convention with that strict instruction and then that a large majority of states’ citizens vote for such a change. That is inconceivable and not sufficient fear to argue against the several desperately needed actions that would have sufficient support to be presented at a convention of the states.
Ol’ J.P. doesn’t realize how difficult the Amendment process is, & that the Founders intended it that way.
The only Amendment ever ratified using the state convention means specified in Article V was the 21st which repealed Prohibition (the 18th). Though repeal was wildly popular across the nation, the state conventions were used as many state legislatures would have opposed repeal.
J.P. needs to burn the ol’ shoe leather & start lobbying the states to support modifying the 2nd Amendment, otherwise he’s just blowing smoke. The American population is aroused about defense of gun rights to a level not seen since the Revolution (Lexington & Concord, anyone?).
