This sounds like treason to me.
If this group were led by a guy named, I dunno, Osama, they would be labeled terrorists hell bent on destroying America

It isn't; you see the founders were very specific as to what would constitute treason:
CONSTITUTION FOR THE UNITED STATES, Art III, Section. 3.If you look at the text, by using 'them' the Constitution ensures that treason can only be an offense against the several States, not the federal government; they specifically and cleverly excluded the federal government from the crime precisely because the Revolution was still recent in everyone's minds — and they knew that a central government could accrue/usurp much power to itself.
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
