KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A woman from west Knoxville found a body under her deck while hunting for Easter eggs with her son Wednesday.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Tara Hanouskova smelled an odor that progressively got worse over the past week, but could never pinpoint the source.
On Wednesday, however, while hunting for Easter eggs with her three-year-old, she noticed something with a pair of feet clad in tennis shoes in the crawl space under her deck.
She explained that the odor wasn't consistent nor strong; she only smelled it off and on until it got so bad she decided to peer under her deck to check it out.
"I really don't even know how he got there," Hanouskova said.

Weird all around...
Sounds like the opening scenes of Law and Order .
We have all had that funky smell that we try to pinpoint, usually it is just some dirt laundry or a dead mouse.
One rotten egg left over after a hunt can smell up the entire house surprised the odor wasn’t worse
She said 911 dispatchers even passed along the message to be sensitive to the situation because of her son's situation; police cruisers and fire trucks reportedly responded to their home without the use of sirens and flashing lights.
"They were very respectful; they tread lightly," Hanouskova said. "My son has no idea what happened."
Seriously, since the decedent was long gone, nothing appears to have been lost by pursuit of this approach, and the child was likely spared needless trauma.
Vincent Price was heard muttering, “Eggcellent”!
And we all hope that's true, dear.
Agreed. We’ve become a society were doing the decent thing is newsworthy.
Yea right but lets launch SWAT and lock up a normal run of the mill kid for holding his hand like a pistol in the lunch room??
I remember when I was around 8 an alligator got run over on a dirt road which our school bus traveled. It did not look like it had decayed but when one of the girls asked the driver to stop and let her see it, he did.
Then the odor really hit us. I can still remember just how sickening it was. I just can’t imagine a human body.
I wonder if he was a vagrant and crawled under there for shelter?
Human decomp smells differently, or so I’ve been told.
Weird is right! I heard this on the Nashville news last night and thought, “No way that body didn’t stink to high heaven!” We had a possum die under our deck a couple of years ago and we couldn’t get under there to get it out. The deck’s too close to the ground to fit under there. We couldn’t step out the back door for over a week without wanting to gag. The stench was quite consistent.
I have a hard time buying her story.
I have a Nephew who heads the state forensics lab in a Southern State. I once asked him if having to deal with bodies sometimes in bad condition bothered him. He said it actually did not except a single time when a Mother had killed her children. He said he didn’t even think about it until he realized it was totally getting to him.
Expect a lot more dead bodies as Marxism continues to infect the country.
Nazism: 25 million dead
Marxism: 100 million dead...
...and counting.
It's a pretty unforgettable odor.
[SF Bay Area] I was working a few blocks from the Cypress Structure when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit in 1989. Many people were trapped and crushed in the collapsed double-deck freeway. Over the next week or so I could smell the decaying bodies before they were removed.
Another time I smelled the same familiar smell in an apartment building. I wondered about the elderly gentleman in the corner apartment. Yes, that had been him.
Man, if we could have gotten SWAT to show up at our school just for that...don’t ya know what would happen. Wait a minute...SWAT didn’t exist when I was in school.
Unfortunately, I’ve smelled that smell.
Something one doesn’t forget.
I use to work at Flushing hospital in Queens New York in the mid 1980s during the height of the AIDS epidemic and I would just about everyday have to wrap up the AIDS corpses - Tape up the hand and legs, put them in a bag, then in the freezer. Never affected me, it was like putting away mannequins.
Then I would get the victims from the ER. One guy once had his face chainsawed almost in half. Then I had a car accident where 3 kids died. They were like dolls, and when I closed the freezer door I broke down and cried to the point of almost having a seizure. Nothing affected me until that.
I attended the funeral of one of my favorite Aunts. She had donated her eyes so that might have been part of the problem but I could definitely smell some decomposition. It was not overpowering but others must have noticed it too.
They were by no means poor so I am sure had a high quality funeral. Still that bothered me.
