I live in Texas in a rural area. In my neighborhood several individuals have firing ranges in their back yards. When I am shooting I call the local sheriff department and tell them I am shooting and for how long I will be shooting. They notify their deputies so they will not be bothered by anyone that calls in.

The first time I was shooting on my range I had an unexpected visit by the local sheriff deputies. They were most courteous and asked to inspect my range. My range has a backstop that is 16 feet tall. They were satisfied with the safety of my range and left. They were very professional and courteous.

They have never came back as I always call when I am shooting. This is Texas and that is the way it should be.

This appears to be a similar situation when I was zeroing in my new pellet rifle in my large backyard. In my case a neighbor claimed I was shooting at birds but he could only hear the sound. Some people don’t like private arms of any kind even if use is well within surrounding protection. It is the old ‘I don’t like it and you have to cater to my personal dislikes.
