They were prized during the Roman Empire, costing about $10 (in 1903 dollars, when the empire food spending limit for feasts, including weddings was about $50), and a favorite dish of Henry VIII.

They were supposed to look pretty and stroll around the yard since I had no flower beds at the time. They didn’t mind (stayed holed up in the barn most of the time), but I enjoyed them for 10+ years.
