An Illinois House committee endorsed a plan today to contribute $100 million in state funds toward construction of a Barack Obama presidential library in Chicago.
The proposal, pushed by House Speaker Michael Madigan, goes to the full House next.
Madigan said it's appropriate for Illinois to commit public funds for the library even though the state is grappling with serious financial problems.

Meanwhile, our betters in the Kingdom of Chicago tell us the ‘temporary’ (Believe that?) state income tax needs to be made permanent. Or even better, be morphed into a regulatory monster like the Fedzilla version in order to ensure that the ‘rich’ pay their fair share.
IL was $7B in debt. The ‘temporary’ tax increase reportedly brought in $5B of which only $2B was spent on the debt it was passed to pay off. Nobody is certain where the remaining $5B went, but a lot of downstate fingers sure are pointing to the north to the Kingdom on the Lake.
So we remain $5B in debt but now must pony up $100M to build a shrine to a president most outside of the Kingdom did not vote for? FRiends, only in IL.
That is so exciting for IL that they have $100 million extra laying around, to use for this project! The state must be having a miraculous economic recovery!
