Media Matters for America is apparently resisting an effort by Service Employees International Union Local 500 to unionize its staff.

Last week, the union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board, indicating that the nonprofit media watchdog organization rejected an effort by the union to organize MMFA’s staff through a Card Check election. […]

MMFA has regularly presented itself as a supporter of organized labor. It has argued that “economists point to declining union participation as one cause of the growing economic rift in America” and claimed it was a fact that “unions increase productivity [and] do not reduce business competitiveness.” …

This is hysterical. At my first employer after college in 1977, the union or its supporters so regularly vandalized non-supporter’s cars that several had to quit because they could no longer get to work. Let’s hope it gets as ugly as a union can make it. Hopefully, there’s a community organizer someplace. (A community organizer targets people for the mob to intimidate. That’s their job.)

Saul Alinsky would have his supporters hand notes to the school children of bankers at their schools reading, “I do so hope that little Johnnie likes it here at New Hope school.” (The threat, in case you haven’t noticed, is implied.)

This is great. Wait until the main stream media and the hollyweird crowd hear about this. I am sure they will shout it to the rooftops. (no sarc tag needed)

Organized workers in the news media trades have generally been represented by a variety of guilds, mostly under the Communications Workers of America, part of AFL-CIO. SEIU has likely targeted Media Matters because if it can enroll its staff it can have some influence over the content of the propaganda Media Matters produces.

"Under the Supreme Court's 1973 Enmons decision, vandalism, assault, even murder by union officials are exempt from federal anti-extortion law. As long as the violence is aimed at obtaining property for which the union can assert a "lawful claim"--for example, wage or benefit increases-- the violence is deemed to be in furtherance of "legitimate" union objectives. By the Court's peculiar logic, such violence does not count as extortion. "
