(GENEVA) — Top diplomats from the United States, European Union, Russia and Ukraine reached agreement Thursday on immediate steps to ease the crisis in Ukraine.
The agreement, reached after seven hours of negotiation in Geneva, requires all sides to refrain from violence, intimidation or provocative actions. It calls for the disarming of all illegally armed groups and for control of buildings seized by pro-Russian separatists during the protests to be turned back over to authorities.
It also gives amnesty to protesters who comply with the demands, except those found guilty of committing capital crimes.
Monitors with the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe will be tasked with helping Ukraine authorities and local communities comply with the requirements outlined in the agreement. And Kiev’s plans to reform its constitution and transfer more power from the central government to regional authorities must be inclusive, transparent and accountable — including through the creation of a broad national dialogue.
The tentative agreement could put on hold — for now at least — economic sanctions the West had prepared to impose on Russia if the talks were fruitless. And that would ease international pressure both on Moscow and nervous European Union nations that depend on Russia for their energy.

And every other European country handed over its Jews to the Nazis, despite not having either (1) been victimized by Jews in the Soviet leadership and killed by the millions during the Holodomor or (2) set against the Jews through being targeted for extermination themselves as the Ukrainians were. If you want to punish a European country for crimes against Jews by making it a Russian province, that country should be Germany or Austria, not Ukraine. Heck, next to Germany, Russia is the country most responsible for the Holocaust - if the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact hadn't been signed, would Hitler have dared to start World War II, knowing that Germany faced huge armies from both the East and the West? Punish Russia, by helping to dismantle its still massive empire, instead of making it bigger by helping it to annex Ukraine.
Ah, some perfumed gentlemen gathered in a comfy room in Geneva and signed a piece of paper.
All will now be well.

Thank you, yes, up to now, the Ukrainians have not stood up to Russian hooliganism. Russian hooligans will eventually force Ukraine to decide whether to stand up to them or to allow them to take over. They will not stop at the provinces with a majority of Russians, but will continue to provinces with any Russians, and will spread to other near Republics including NATO countries. If and when Ukrainians stand up to the Russian hooligans, there is no guarantee that the confrontation won’t escalate into violence, and that the violence won’t then lead to war. Russia can beat Ukraine, but could not be be sure of defeating Ukraine and Poland. Plus, commitment of Russia’s forces would open the Caucuses to Islamic jihadists, and enable the Sunnis to go on the offensive in Syria without fear of Russian reprisal. The deal represents a good bargain for Russia, in terms of Euros and Dollars coveted by Moscow. Russia’s military is not as large or as reliable as you might think. They have an interest in getting their agents and infiltrators under control.
