After that when I took him for his morning walk, If the husky saw him he would cross the street to get away, and then cross back after we passed. Cody was the toughest dog in the neighborhood, but never once let it go to his head. He has been gone 5 years and I still miss him.

I know what you mean. I still miss Sammy. My husband called him the "little turd," but he was a heart-breaker wonderful dog. My husband got all our dogs from the pound.

Ducks and geese do that.

Do you remember the movie "Friendly Persuasion" with Gary Cooper? His wife had a goose, part watch dog, part biter and all aggression. The goose was the terror of their Amish neighborhood.

Smaller than a shotgun, and it is smooth enough with .410 rounds in it that your wife can fire it.

I agree that the Taurus it is a great gun (IMHO an excellent car gun), but as a pistol it packs a bit of a pop to one hand. We went through a box of 410s one Saturday and I remembered it Sunday.

Being at the other end would hurt more, but just sayin’ ya might want to wear a glove for practice.

My neighbors like my other dogs but won’t interact with the Dobes unless I’m controlling them.

I can only imagine what would be said, if a stranger inquired about my house.

[not to mention the gauntlet of hungry, lunging Boa Constrictors they’d have to run, just to get into the living room] LOL

I had two geese and one gander.

The gander was a lunatic.

Every time I had to tend the girls’ needs, he’d jump on me, biting and hitting.

Even the dogs let them be.

:D

Whenever strangers inquire about the Dobes, before petting them, I always say “Yes, they’re nice dogs...until they they feel they have reason not to be or I tell them not to be.”

Which is true.

First off the yard is properly fenced.

Second, her dogs are not alone outside, even in their own fenced yard. She always watches them (it’s called being responsible - novel, huh?).

Third, if the neighbor’s dog did manage to get over the fence into her yard (due to location, very highly unlikely), it’s not too likely either of her dogs would do much. They don’t see dogs as intruders in their territory (cats and squirrels are fair game). Strange people is another matter. I should say strange *alone* people. Anyone that comes with a person they already know is liable to be jumped on and begged for attention.

Fat lotta good a gun would have done.

They slept through the entire break-in and didn’t know anyone had been in the house till a neighbor found items in the yard and they saw the camera recordings.

The intruder could have left with the kid and they would never have known it. A weapon would have been useless.

Good thing it was a burglar and not a kidnapper.
