Ethnic Ukrainians in the East speak Russian and are not overly fond of Kiev. The region has an overall ethnic Ukrainian majority but every one speaks and understands Russian. Its a world away from Ukrainian-speaking Lvov, the center of the Maidan.

Its a world away from Ukrainian-speaking Lvov, the center of the Maidan.Slovenes, Croats and Bosnians all speak Serbian. But they broke away from a Serb-dominated Yugoslavia, anyway. Plenty of ethnic Czechs spoke German, but they identified with Czechoslovakia rather than Austria.
