“Today, you will take your kamikaze airplane high into the sky, over the Yankee aircraft carrier, then take the kamikaze plane down, crashing on the deck, killing yourself and all aboard. Before we have the ceremonial sake toast, are there any questions?”
“Honorable general-san: Are you out of your f-—ing mind?”
Great. Now Putin will invade.
Gotta get the crowds pumped up for WWIII.
Interesting article. Knew someone who watched “Grave of the Fireflies”, said they were too depressed to commit suicide afterwards.
Hope they show the rape of Nanking. Or the treatment allied POWs received (like the Bataan Death March or the construction of theBurma-Siam railway by allied prisoner slave laborers. )
We were visiting Hawaii a few years back and made the required stop at Pearl Harbor and the Arizona.
About 1 and 3 people in line for the Arizona memorial were Asian and very likely Japanese. I could tell by the language and facial features. Not certain why they were visiting. But it was strange.
I’d like to watch these movies. Wonder if they have subtitled versions?
I recall the story of “Chicken” Yamaguchi, who flew 37 kamakaze missions.
EXPECT THIS
Whether we like it or not, Japan will now have to MAN-UP given the threat from China and our unilateral disarming. This is part of the effort. Building a nuke arsenal is another part, and I’m sure they’re well along there.
If we don’t like it, that’s tough. No different than thinking we have any influence on Putin. We are a burned-out laughing stock, more interested in figuring out how to populat our military with (people of alternative lifestyles) than being able to project force.
The Japanese soldier had a solemn duty in WWII, sit and wait to be killed by US service members.
We were working with a Japanese Corporation on a Engineering project. We had a number of them working in our office. They would get American holidays off. If fact they got more American holidays off than we did. One early December day one of my co-workers stated “If they get December 7th off, I’m going ballistic.”
Did they actually see the movie?
Or did they just assume it was President Obama's life story?
