You say “unknown” but he was very well known to anyone who bothered to look at him. He wrote (well, someone did) two books about his life (or his version of his life). He had a state senate record (thin) and his U.S. Senate record (present), his speeches, his friends, his pastor. I knew him very well and he has not surprised me at all.
This is NOT because of Obama. This is thanks in large part to the dangerous traitor Grover Norquist, who convinced George W. Bush to give Muslim Brotherhood members broad access to the White House. Norquist’s treason is virtually ignored by the GOPe, because of fear of his stupid “pledge”, and any conservative (like Reagan DoD Asst. Sec. Frank Gaffney) who goes against him is practically blackballed by the establishment.
Especially on the left... they're of the mindset that feeding the growing monster means they'll be eaten last.
West needs to ask, “How has it come to this?...”

Muslim dominance can’t be imposed by ‘’stealth.’’ For example, Muslims would like all women to wear burkhas, yet even in Europe, where Muslims are much more numerous and dominant than they are here, Muslim girls aren’t even permitted to wear headscarves in public schools.
Yet the large number of Muslims in Europe must be having an impact on European politics. For example, no group is more socially conservative than Muslims — in Saudi Arabia, homosexuals are murdered; adulterous women are stoned to death; etc. — so it’s likely that Europe’s recent evolution from Socialism to Conservatism — only Greece and France still have Socialist governments — has something to do with the impact of the growing number of Muslims and their extreme family values on Europe’s political life.
Long before Muslims in America are powerful enough to force women to cover themselves from head to toe, they will be influential enough to have an impact on promoting socially conservative values at the voting booth.
Of course, CAIR and its Muslim terrorist sponsors are terrible. But the vast majority of Muslim-Americans are not dangerous, anymore than the vast majority of African-Americans who are not Black Panthers are dangerous.
