I believe you are right about the origin of the word homosexual. But then, things changed, and the homosexual community decided to use the word gay.
Why did they choose gay? Did they want people to think that they are the dictionary definition, meaning that homosexuals are happy and carefree????
Don’t know why the yags stole the word gay but never heard the usage myself until the 70s.
