Deal reached; BLM will release confiscated cattle to rancher

LAS VEGAS --  A deal has been reached between Bundy family leaders and the BLM, but not without some very tense moments.

Armed Bundy family leaders met with BLM officers Saturday afternoon in Mesquite to discuss the fate of the Bundy's cattle that the feds removed from BLM land, over the past week. The cattle are being held at a holding area in Mesquite.

Prior to the meeting, hundreds of protesters, some armed, tried storming the BLM's cattle gate, but weren't successful. The crowd was urged to wait 30 minutes and give both sides a chance to talk. An agreement was reached that the cattle will be released to the Bundy family later Saturday.

At one point, I-15 was closed in both directions, about seven miles south of Mesquite, because protesters had blocked the freeway. Nearly two dozen police officers and a SWAT unit were at the scene to keep the peace and assist the BLM enforcement officers to safely leave the area.

Protesters have been gathering all week in support of rancher Cliven Bundy, who has been locked in a legal battle for the past 20 years over grazing rights with the federal government

Any government officials coming to the farmer’s aid?

I’m confused!!! Conflicting reports state that it is BLM land, other claim that it is state land!! Which is it? I didn’t know that BLM “owned” any land, just managed it!!

There were a lot of people present, something that prevents violence. And a number of them were armed, something that also leads to polite and peaceful interactions.

BLM manages federal land in the West.

That's a closely held secret. I wouldn't want anyone figuring out an antidote for it.

This is how cowards work, they will back off and then sneakily do something else when confrontation does not go in their favor.
Check out the BLM website for the Statement on ending the Operation, it’s funny. Last week the FEDS owned the Public Land, and in the letter the American People own it....only now they are saying Bundy is not paying the American people.
New Tactics now in place.

Seeing the poor wording and grammar in the Militia’s signs, and Ms. Bundy’s internet post that she sent out to explain things made me proud. Ms. Bundy’s post I imagine was written in haste, to rally the troops.

And it shows that TRUE Americans don’t need to have a fancy education like those BLM college boys. Or the Senators from Ivy Schools. They are ordinary, hard-working people that know what is right. And what is wrong. And willing to stand up for it. I will not look down my nose at good people that may not get the spelling correct on a word they have use maybe six times (cerf, surf, serf) - or can’t remember the rules for “i before e”. (A seismic shift in thinking for some I suppose.)

By a judgement, do you mean a court order? ‘Cause the BLM did take Bundy to court (twice) and Bundy lost both times.

Or did you mean something else by “a judgement”?

Agreed that Bundy should be allowed to graze the cattle on his original allotment but he should also pay his permits properly like everyone else (and like he had done originally) and remove his cattle from the new trespass area. BLM should be made to fully explain and justify their land use policies for the allotments in question and if they can’t do so, they need to ease the restrictions.

What's necessary is militia counter sniper teams — camouflaged and with suppressors — so that if the FedGov assassins engage the Bundys, the protesters, or militia members with deadly force, militia counter snipers will wipe them out. That applies to any of these thugs who want to play war.

The Clark County Sheriff should make it clear to the BLM a**holes that any lethal force violence on their part against the Bundys, protesters, or militia members, WILL be answered with deadly force in return. All those BLM thugs using deadly force on American citizens in his county will be terminated with extreme and final prejudice.

As I understand the issue, his family has grazed the cattle on this land for well over a century. They have always paid a grazing fee to the county. The Feds came in with the Bureau of Land Management in 1993 and demanded payment instead... the land was never officially transferred in ownership, just in management. Bundy attempted repeatedly to pay the county as he always had but was rebuffed. He refuses to pay the Feds for the "privilege" of grazing on land they don't own.

I would like to state to the LEOs, federal, state, and local, that patriots don’t hate you. Further, the vast majority of folks don’t want to fight with you. What we want is you to stop serving tyranny and start serving freedom and liberty. To stop being agents for criminals and start being agents for America. And you need to understand that the government of the United States is not America.

I think the Bundy supporters made it quite clear that would happen. The weasel sherif only relayed the resolve of the protestors/protectors.

That is why I said “properly”. If the county owns the land (which I have seen differing accounts of who actually owns it) and wants him to pay the Feds then he should pay the Feds. When he applied for grazing permits, he agreed to abide by the conditions of those permits. If he doesn’t agree with the terms then he should go to court (which I understand he has done several times and lost each decision). It is not up to a lease holder to decide who they are going to pay and who they are not. Apparently the courts have repeatedly told him that the Federal government has jurisdiction on the lands in question.

As I said in an earlier thread, if he knows he is supposed to pay for what he is using but doesn’t, then he is essentially stealing it. If BLM has half a brain, they should offer him a fair settlement/generous partial forgiveness on back owed fees to clear this matter up and Bundy should accept it or keep his cattle confined to his private property.
