Did the government buy that land in 1993? How exactly did they come into possession of it? Was it a “deem and own” kind of deal, or did they actually pay the state of Nevada for it?

The Government never bought the land. It is NOT Federal Government Land.

It is state land. In 1993 Clintoon signed some sort of Federal Protective Species Act to ‘protect’ the tortoises.
Which included the tortoises on this land.

The Governments been fighting with him over it for 20 years.
But now that Harry Reid wants the land.. they’re going in with Guns blazing.
