To: Red in Blue PA

Wow, two lies right there in the first sentence. Smart cars are not that great for the environment, in two ways: One, their tiny size, and absolute lack of cargo room, mean you either make more trips or use something bigger, and they don’t really get all that great mileage anyway. There are several larger cars that do much better. They are great for parking in tiny spaces, though. Second, they’re not great for the bottom line. They’re surprisingly pricey. Several of those cars that get better mileage also cost less.

Indeed!...My 2003 diesel beetle get 51 mpg. It's been a great car. After 11 years and 120,000 miles it has never needed anything except routine maintenance.

I checked out the Smart car. The mileage isn't that great.

Surprisingly pricey? They are made by Mercedes Benz. That company wrote the book on pricey.
