BREAKING: House Ways and Means Committee Votes to Refer Lois Lerner For Criminal Charges
Townhall.com ^ | April 9, 2014 | Katie Pavlich

The House Ways and Means Committee has voted to 23-14 along party lines to refer former head of tax exempt groups at the IRS Lois Lerner to the Justice Department for prosecution. Although the details about exactly what charges will be have not yet been released, lawmakers are arguing Lerner has not been truthful with Congress or the IRS inspector general and leaked confidential tax information.

Last time a referral like this happened, it was to Major League Baseball player Roger Clemens, who was pursued by the Department of Justice for lying to Congress but was exonerated in court.

This is a test for the Department of Justice and the Obama administration. What's more important? Baseball and steroids? Or the most powerful federal agency abusing its power to target innocent conservative groups?

Last summer President Obama called the targeting "outrageous" and promised to hold people responsible and accountable for what happened. If the Justice Department refuses to pursue charges against Lerner, it's fair to say one reason is because they don't want information leading back to the administration coming out in court.

Tomorrow the House Oversight Comittee will vote on whether to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress.

The House Sergeant at Arms can arrest Leaner and Congress can hold her INDEFINITELY until she testifies.

Time for Congress to reopen its own jail?

The contempt charge is more likely to result in actual jail time.

I hate to be the one to break this to ya but:

1) There is no Easter Bunny

2) There is no Santa Claus

3) Miss Lerner's "punishment" will be to be given full retirement,at $200K a year, with a solid gold (free) health plan and unlimited access to the Senate cloak room and gym.

Glad that they did this (finally) but don't expect this lawless DOJ to do anything with it.

Yeah, like Holder will do anything.
He’ll foot drag until the next Whig Administration gets elected.

This is the long awaited showdown with the corrupt Eric Holder. If he doesn’t choose to pursue the criminal case, then he may be subject to impeachment by the House.

....

The attorney general is nominated by the President of the United States and takes office after confirmation by the United States Senate. He or she serves at the pleasure of the president and can be removed by the president at any time; the attorney general is also subject to impeachment by the House of Representatives and trial in the Senate for “treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

What would be interesting is if Holder’s DoJ declines to pursue (as expected) and it turns out that Issa has hard evidence (via whistleblowers and their documents) of collusion between Lerner, Holder/subordinates, and the House Dems. Including quid pro quos promising not to prosecute in return for Lerners silence...

**Interesting..I also read on another thread that if DOJ declines, then Congress can act on own & eliminate the DOJ from saying they overstepped authority.
Really hoping this is not another Kabuki. Time to play hardball GOP.

You naughty girl, now you are going to lose your private parking place Holder’s involved—LOL!

Why don’t that idiot Boehner create a special select committee and go after these criminals instead of this piecemeal individual committee crap?

Race—obama’s race, they afraid to go after the first black president even though he is a criminal through and though, bunch of gutless wonders in the GOP House.
