LAS VEGAS -- The son of a rural Nevada cattle rancher has been freed from federal custody, a day after his arrest by agents working to remove cattle from disputed grazing areas northeast of Las Vegas.

A U.S. attorney's office spokeswoman in Las Vegas said Monday that 37-year-old Dave Bundy is accused of refusing to disperse and resisting officers.Bundy's mother, Carol Bundy, says U.S. Bureau of Land Management agents arrested her son Sunday in a parked car on State Route 170 near Bunkerville.

Pictures obtained by the 8 News NOW I-Team show where David Bundy had parked his car to take pictures of the cattle eviction.

Bundy says he was only exercising his First Amendment rights when federal officers told him to leave  the area and when he didn't, they grabbed him."Two officers surround me, third one in front of me. They jumped me and took me to the ground. You can see they scraped up my face," Bundy said.Bundy's father, Cliven Bundy, says his cattle are entitled to graze in the Gold Butte area."They steal my cattle, and that is bad enough. But they make my son a political prisoner," Cliven Bundy said.

This weekend wranglers, hired by the federal government, started  removing cattle owned by Bundy from a stretch of land near the Virgin River Gorge.

I thought the gov’t land belonged to the people.

But his family owned the land before the BLM stole it.

“We own this land,” he said, not the feds. He said he is willing to pay grazing fees but only to Clark County, not BLM.“Years ago, I used to have 52 neighboring ranchers,” he said. “I’m the last man standing. How come? Because BLM regulated these people off the land and out of business.”-

The most recent gov’t “shutdown” showed that the Federal government is NOT a suitable repository for much of the property they hold in trust for “The People”.

Not even a question. They had paid a leasing fee for year’s nothing complicated about that. Don’t pay your lease don’t graze your cow’s. They stop paying they stop grazing.

See #24 for at least one rationale against the current administration of Federal Property.

They are not allowed to lease the property anymore for alleged habitat reasons.

I agree 100% but the problem is they have been paying a lease fee in the past. Who pays a lease fee to land they own?

To me it seems there's overreach on both sides. Even if the rancher's family has been using that Federal land since the 1880s it's not his private property. But many such ranchers I've known feel they have the right to fence Federal grazing land and stop public access. In my mind that's wrong even if they're paying grazing fees.

But in this case the Feds are using military tactics and force against a U.S. citizen and restricting free speech. I think that's an even greater wrong. In a larger context I view it as the beginning of forceful implementation of Agenda 21. It also has overtones of Leftist Vegans saying "Let them eat soybeans and quinoa, not that nasty meat."

They stopped their lease payments 5 years before that came into play.

“I’m sure Harry Reid will come to the farmer’s aid.”

-yeah. That's Dirty Harry in that helicopter, I'm sure.

The rule of law is gone.

H0lder, et. al. @ JustUs doesn't follow the Law. 0bama doesn't follow the Law. SCOTUS doesn't follow the Law. Why should anyone else do so?

Oh, I know; every story I read about the thugs the madder I got. It made me wonder about the “public servants” that were “just following orders”.

I see a similar mindset on my hunting land....we get some trespassers from time to time saying - we hunted this land for years who are you (me) to tell me not to hunt

I don't profess to know all the details but in instances like this, Im of the opinion we defer to the working tax paying citizen/business owner and not the govt as they've proven time and time again to not steward their responsibilities and public trust well

It’s the law of leasing, don’t pay your lease and you don’t graze. simple as that. Work’s the same on private ranches and leasing.

"They stopped their lease payments 5 years before that came into play. "

Maybe the gov't should be subsidizing them like it does to >50% of America. They could be raising Wagyu Beef to feed the 1st Wookie for free.

"It’s the law of leasing, "

Just like the law of administering Bonds, like at GM?

Rancher Bundy should run against federal thug Hairy Reid next time. I'll bet he'd win. I'd contribute to his campaign.

This is all like the old Western movies we saw as kids...the ranchers against the Feds, starring John Wayne and Walter Brennan.

A newly-elected Senator Bundy sending Reid off into the sunset would be the perfect movie ending for this ongoing saga.

The rancher is the source of the problem here.

The land he is grazing his cattle on is not his land, it belongs to the federal government. Since he is refusing to pay the grazing fees (which he did at one time), he is squatting on federal lands.
