Somebody should remind the perpetually-confused obama worshiper that it was the Democrats, lead by Al Gore, Sr., who fought hard against passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1965, despite strong support of the legislation by Lyndon Johnson.

Without the support of a considerable number of Republicans in the Democrat-controlled congress, Johnson would have been dealt an embarassing loss by his own party.

Now, let me go check to see if this is brought up in the New York Times/LA Times/USA Today/CNN/etc., etc. coverage of Carney's statement ... OOPS! Don't see it anywhere ...
