So much for the GOP Establishment’s “Electability” Argument in Oregon
redstate.com ^ | 4/7/14

Posted on 04/08/2014 1:11:23 PM PDT by cotton1706

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the Beltway GOP Establishment has been pushing a liberal, pro-abortion candidate in the U.S. Senate Primary here in Oregon.

I talked about how the tired narrative that somehow we have to be more liberal to win elections remains alive and well in DC circles and how the “experts” – including Karl Rove, Saxby Chambliss, Susan Collins, and Richard Burr — do not believe that a conservative pro-life candidate can win in Oregon.

They think they know better than those of us fighting here in the trenches.

Well, a new Harper poll just released shows how wrong they are.

In head-to-head matchups with incumbent Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley, conservative pro-lifer Jason Conger performs better than the GOP establishment’s pro-abortion pick, Monica Wehby.

Conger trails Merkley by just 7 points; Wehby trails him by 12 points.

This is a winnable race in the general – a generic ballot match-up shows Republicans just 3 percentage points behind Democrats. That’s within the margin of error.

But we only have a shot if we nominate someone who can draw clear contrasts with Sen. Merkley – and that person is Jason Conger.

It’s time for Republicans to support principled candidates who can relate to regular voters, not politicians propped up by DC money.

The problem isn’t with these positions, it is that the liberal media try to use these position statements to portray them as backward freaks.

If someone went on the attack and didn’t apologize for their beliefs, they would get respect.

That is the very tactic gay rights activists have been using.

Uh oh, time for the GOPe to pull all funding from the race and ensure the Democrat wins before a conservative wins the seat and makes conservatives look “electable”. I may be pessimistic but I actually believe this would be preferable to the GOPe—they would rather lose than let a conservative win on what would be the traditional Republican platform.

I used to think that Rove and the rest of the GOP establishment were just too dense to learn from their past failures. Their support of this OR candidate, and their flirtation with Jeb Bush for 2016 is making me wonder if they aren’t actually just on the DNC payroll.

Why vote for a RINO when voting for Democrat gives you the real thing?

Rove is all about making Rove & his cronies more money—it’s all about the Benjamins on that front.

The GOPe is all about moving the progressive agenda forward—but on a more moderate pace than the DimocRATS.

Why pick a fake liberal when you can have the real thing?

You can’t be a liberal with a half-liberal. The liberals will reject him/her because they are part conservative and vice-versa.

I think most independents aren’t. They are Republican leaning conservatives or Democrat leaning liberals who don’t want to register.

If someone went on the attack and didn’t apologize for their beliefs, they would get respect.

Pro-life candidates lose time after time because they try to appeal to the kinder, gentler side of monsters who have no kinder, gentler side.

Here's a winning pro-life campaign:

"If a woman wants an abortion, she can get an abortion.
When the baby is viable, we'll set up an appointment with a doctor who will either induce labor or remove the baby by C-section.
Then the doctor can abort the woman who wanted to kill her baby.
Horrible statement; horrible concept. But it will win. Solomon would approve.

If you want to keep losing, just keep turning the other cheek.

Winning Oregon is about NOT fracturing the base.
Expect a “Libertarian” to show up if things start getting close.
Oregon RATS are almost as good as CA at manipulating a message.
I wish them well. This will be a very tough one to win.

You wouldn’t be alluding to the fact that they help the democrats, then, if their own candidate loses in the primary!?! Yes, they ARE democrats, as far as I am concerned. They run as republicans because it is a heavy republican area, but they are true democrats. When you cannot support the candidate your own constituency selected, then you are NOT of that party ideologically.

“Horrible statement; horrible concept. But it will win. Solomon would approve.”

Here is a slightly more or less horrible one depending upon how you look at it. The purpose of this stance would be to show how evil the abortion industry is and how they will never except any compromise. (Note: I would be very uncomfortable with this policy even though i is a step in the right direction)

Here is the offer of a compromise that pro-aborts will refuse

1. A woman may have a single (ONE) abortion at any time up to delivery.

2.The abortion will be paid for by the state

3. The right to a single abortion is not transferable

4. The abortion must be done in a hospital not a clinic specific for that purpose.

5. If a woman seeks a second abortion she must agree to be permanently sterilized.

6. Let’s not be sexist about this either; any man who impregnates more than two women that he is not married to should be permanently sterilized. Yep, I mean a teenager how can’t keep it in his pants; red or yellow black or white they’re all philanderers in my sight. Spade and neuter them like stray cats

This would be a huge compromise for the pro-life movement in a lot of ways but the pro-killing-babies side would never go for it.

I many of the “soft” left voters might. The purpose of this stance would be to change the nature of the discussion away from the left’s talking points and to make them look like the radical murderers they are. This would also stop about 80% of all abortions

The Oregon Supreme Court has certified a ballot title for the driver card referendum on the November ballot that includes a controversial reference to “legal presence.”

The title will read: Provides Oregon resident “driver card” without requiring proof of legal presence in the United States.

http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/04/driver_card_referendum_oregon_1.html

They need to attack the Democrat on amnesty. This will be good for turnout.

I thought that I had clarified my Post #18. When the Poster said “Republicans” and I said “When pigs fly.” I was thinking GOP Establishment. They are not like Conservatives who are pro-life and vote for family values.
