He did tell Leningrad democratic reformer Anatoly Sobchak he worked at the time for the KGB. The young man’s honesty must have endeared him to Sobchak, for he was given increasing responsibility for the city.

Vladimir Putin at some point turned in his Party card when he left the KGB and never looked back. But he has been an adroit politician.

Served in various roles in both of President Yeltsin’s administrations and then was named his successor. His popularity lies in his use of common Russian and his ability to identify with the narod of Russia.

He gave it stability and rebuilt it as a great power. That I believe, is his real legacy as President.

The world IS at war, but it's all about economics, land and resources

Don't know why you're wasting your time explaining the obvious. If they don't understand, then they're hopelessly ignorant. On the other hand, perhaps they do understand perfectly well and believe they're serving a useful purpose for their masters.

Btw, it's always been about economics, land & resources: - Mexican-American war
- Spanish-American war
- WWI
- WWII

As I'm sure you know, the Japanese attacked Pearl & Singapore the same day in an effort to break the US oil embargo by capturing SE Asian oil fields.

Scuttlebutt suggests the line was drawn in Syria ie nukes were put on the table. The Ukraine affair just doubled down on that threat. Not sure what the US/NATO thinks it can accomplish. At this point, it looks kind of like a giant cluster with no way out.

....("The only sane thing is to understand that the precise opposite is probably true, and that conservatives are being cynically played by appealing to their Cold War service patriotism")......

Good observation DesertRhino...and I believe you are correct.

I say this because I was reading that "Patriotism" is now being 'used by the liberals', though they will twist it to their favored agenda.....it's called Deception.

It's very similar to false religions and cults using just enough Christian vocabulary to sound convincing...but it's twisted and only half truths if that. Still enough to 'initiate' the uninformed and those not experienced enough to understand what deception is nor how to identify it.

Unfortunately with the media today, used as a "weapon" and wired to promote agenda's and or control the "thinking" of the citizens, it does work to project what they want.

It's been said everyone can be bought....and they can, be it bribes, threats, or whatever, everyone has a "price" because we are now living in a decadent world where there is no longer 'moral conviction' nor 'integrity' which comes from that.

Yep...right..it
s always been about economics, land and resources.......but I think it’s far ‘more sinister’ now.... I say this because we once knew and identified the enemy for what it is. Not so today....We make enemies of those who are not, and allow those who are our enemies free handedness...and worse yet we have leadership that has completely lost it’s bearings for this country, perhaps better said simply handed them over.

When I think of things being handed over, where there should have been a fight to win. I think of McCain handing Obama an election he never had intentions of winning. I detest him more than any other...and those who orchestrated this whole mess we now face.

Yes, am aware of Japans need for oil then.....you could easily see the oil tanks standing tall after all the bombing of Pearl.

My greatest concern with Russia is the International Leaders are really pushing too hard......forcing the confrontations. There’s now oil being found off Israels coast.....I can see Putin going after that one day if he’s pushed hard and long enough....and he’d have the Muslims right along side him to help....with China bringing up the rear at some point.

IMO I don’t think the EU/Us have a clue what they are doing to the balance of powers....but it’s clear it doesn’t matter how much death occurs to achieve what they ultimately desire, though they sing a song of sorrow for and then point the finger elsewhere.

I’m so grateful my sons served their time and then some in our military. Today I would not be supportive of them going into the military to fight what their hands would be tied from fighting. Sick about what we have done to our soldiers.

The Russians are already in the Ukraine. We will wait until some late Friday afternoon to announce it.

...”Putin is not trusted in the world”....

Perhaps by the some of the world's public and the old war horses, but today's World Leaders certainly did trust him.... he's got Crimea.....Says it all Girlene.

Further, they well knew ahead by toying with Ukraine, as the EU/US did and has been doing, they were breaking the official agreement, made by all nations at the UN, they would not interfere with another nation states elections nor their operations.

Putin clearly told them to stay out of his area of influence...while he watched them take the Baltic states etc. Ukraine was off limits and they knew it. So that does lead one to say ‘who’ was itching for a showdown?

Do you ever really ‘hear’ what Putin is saying? He's pretty straight forward about what he will do...Bush took him at his word regardless if he agreed with him or not...he knew and understood Putin's stance. Which is why they could communicate....and is also why Putin “respected” Bush and vice-versa. (One oil man to another).

Listen, I mean really listen to what leaders are saying....they reveal more than their words when they speak. Putin rarely uses prepared speeches...He knows what he wants and believes....even if we don't like it.

On the other hand Obama hasn't any idea what he's “Suppose to say” one minute to the next...he is NOT his own man.

You, Errant, are being overly snarky. The two of you don’t agree on the KGB thug in chief Putin. That does not make Girlene a member of the true enemies of our country.

Did you look at the ‘news’ on their site?... They actually were hired by Russia in 2012..... However, I did find it interesting their news didn’t have anyone listed past 2012....might be worth going deeper to see if they’re actually still under this name, or merged with another group, or don’t operate anymore.

Many Int’l organizations and companies are often shifting about more than needed to operate...or creating subs. Some I’d imagine, do so as not to raise undesirable interest other then their desired clients. Then move under another name.

Russia urged Ukraine to halt any interior military preparations which could instigate a civil war

Now that's rich. Russia expects Ukraine to agree to not defend itself?

I wonder if this is true:

We've won some time. War should have started at the beginning of March but due to Ukrainian pacifism it slowly unfold. Now we have twice as much tanks, aircraft and other ammunition than we had one month ago.

Rope-a-dope?

“North Korea has nothing to do with Ukraine....besides they do nothing without China’s permission.”

Of course it has. It’s the same “perspective” of a psycho country justifying its barbarian policy with “external threats” taken out of their dirty ass.

If I rememeber right they were in Iraq as well....Interesting though is how does anyone know for sure how they are used and by who? Heck even Russia used them as have other nations.

I wonder if these were also the guys that ushered out Ukraine’s Gold in the dead of night... soon after the Pres. was outed. Sounds possible IMO. You know Yats was the one who lined that up to be taken out of Ukraine to the USA.

Loads of moving parts in Ukraine!!!! Fluid is an understatement..LOL

“Putin was part of the “Andropov Levy”, a young group recruited to the KGB by Andropov, who saw the Soviet Union collapsing from within, to help reform it from the inside.”

Isn’t it clear now that he joined KGB to destroy communism from inside ?

Oh good grief!....Russia and N.Korea aren’t even close to being the same two peas in a pod.....China’s only sleeping with Putin for a time..they are not “friends”.

North Korea is simply a buffer zone for China. Same as Ukraine is important to Russia and about the only commonality there is...but you don’t see the EU/US creeping up on China’s border now do you?

China’s played it cool by digging it’s tenticles into our Governments pockets and economy....Russia’s played it’s pipelines.......Both Playing on the World Stage and been stashing away gold for years....while the EU and the US go broke and their banking systems creates money out of thin air....how longs that going to last? An wonder the USA grabbed Ukraines gold!

“Russia and N.Korea aren’t even close”

The “logic” behind showing “their perspective” as a justification of anything is pretty much the same.

“An wonder the USA grabbed Ukraines gold!”

Must be cool writing about evil “gold grabbing” America... at 4 AM in Pennsylvania ;)

Some points you make are good, but not that one. Given proximity, Israel could put 10 Black Sea fleets on the bottom, and smash that Russki base in Syria too, just as a warm-up exercise. Russia is far better off developing their new finds.* China is much better off pushing about weak countries around the Spratly Islands. Saudi needs Israel as a counter to Iran, esp. given US weakness: The Muzzies would split.

Problem is there is a currency of opinion over there that says we have been destabilizing Ukraine. We are disliked over there right now
