Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) -- Tenants are blowing off steam, after receiving a notice sent out by the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority. It details its ban on smoking.

According to the notice, tenants living in the J.R. Polly Limeweaver Apartment complex are not allowed to use Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes.

It is apart of the ban on smoking, which will start on July 1, 2014.

The policy recently added to tenant's leases gave reasons including an effort to decrease health effects, maintenance costs, the risk of fire and the cost of fire insurance.

"The e-cigarettes vapor, it's not like you're smoking tobacco. You know, true it has nicotine in it, but the nicotine ain't in the air," said a tenant who lives in the Section 8 apartment.

He chose to be anonymous, because he is afraid he will be kicked out.

"I mean why should I quit smoking, it's my right to smoke," said the anonymous tenant.

"I'm not in their faces, I'm not doing it in the hallway, I'm in my privacy of my own home," said the anonymous tenant.

He said he's been smoking for more than 30 years and has been using e-cigarettes to kick the habit.

It's a popular trend in the apartment building.

Don Cave who recently suffered a heart attack says his doctor told him, "these things are nothing but vapor, they will not hurt you."

Tenants who are caught violating the 'no smoking policy' will be evicted.

It has nothing to do with the e-cig, public safety, or your personal well being. Forget that notion right now. It has everything to do with loss of state and fed tax revenue from tobacco products, period.

"I mean why should I quit smoking, it's my right to smoke," said the anonymous tenant.

It's not "your right" to smoke in a building YOU DO NOT OWN.

How do "poor" people pay for e-cigarettes in the first place, or regular cigarettes for that matter?

I've been told that "poor people" sell their food stamps/ebt cards for CASH so that they can then go out and buy all the booze and cigarette's they want.

I don't know about being a total dependent on society. But as I grow older and look at the state of the world---it is a constant b!tch...:-)

maintenance costs, the risk of fire and the cost of fire insurance.

Bullsh!t. Does the housing authority still let them deep fry on the stove? In my area there have been a half dozen fires due to people heating up grease on the stove and falling asleep. There was one fire caused by 2 4 yo boys that decided to deep fry something because they were hungry and welfare momma wasn't home. They are both dead now.

The liberals ought to be honest for once and just come out and say "We thing nicotine use of any kind is bad for you and we're going to make you stop for your own good."
