SUBURBAN schoolchildren as young as 12 years old are applying for and getting gun licences in their hundreds, new figures show.
The approved youngsters, including pre-teens, can legally shoot rifles, shotguns and handguns under supervision.
Victoria Police approved 1028 licences in metropolitan areas last year more than 270 were granted to children aged 12 to 14.
Junior gun owners live in some of the states most exclusive suburbs including Prahran and span as far as the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong.
Epping is Melbournes young gun capital with 211 permits given the green light to under 18s.
Victorian chief executive of the Sporting Shooters Association Jack Wegman said the legitimate use of firearms was not a concern to the community.

And I have to laugh, because the kids are target shooting or duck-hunting. We really aren’t expecting muggings, knock-out games, home invasions or random attacks in the street anywhere for which we need a firearm to protect ourselves. Our gun-related deaths were still around 2.6 or so in one hundred thousand of the population, and that included suicides and death as the result of law enforcement whilst in the line of duty.
Reminds me of my youth!
I wish we could say the same about young folk in the USA.
I used to cringe when told we were 50 years behind the US of A. Now, I see it as a blessing.
It is indeed a blessing to have a whole generation capable of bearing arms despite gun control law. It is quite an accomplishment.

In New South Wales, legislation was enacted in June 2012 to place further restrictions on the sale and purchase of ammunition.[109]

In Queensland, the police minister established an advisory panel in August 2012 to examine gun laws and licensing with the aim of reducing red tape for licensed firearms owners,[113] generating a strong negative response from the Queensland Police Union.[114]
The Queensland government also introduced amending legislation in November 2012 to introduce new mandatory minimum penalties for weapons offenses in an effort to address the unlawful use of firearms.[115] It also announced a gun amnesty for people to either hand in or register their firearms.[116] The bill was passed in December 2012.[117]

I can’t begin to explain the difference, we also have a health system that is both public and private and it works.
Our history and demographics are totally different.
One wonders why Oz is not full of American immigres rather than the sub continental skanks who seem to be arriving in droves, LOL.
