Why can’t parents make these little boneheads lunch? Fully half of the parents and more voted for this BS. Enjoy!

My daughter is in 11th grade at a public HS. Hard to believe but the principle is a conservative. We pack a lunch every day for our daughter and always have. Why people think that the school could EVER serve a better lunch than Mom can with a brown bag is beyond me!

When you choose to get a free lunch, you lose choice over the contents of the meal.

While your proposed solution seems sensible, alas, there are many--many--school districts that will not allow the children to bring lunches from home.

Why can't parents make these little bondheads lunch?

They can. A lot of the ones who eat the crap and still complain are getting free breakfast and lunch, and they don't want to give up the freebie. They should be complaining to the school.

It doesn't have to be that bad. I was at a school a few years ago that did a nutrition project in partnership with the food provider (the schools don't actually do the cooking anymore, just microwave and serve). With real effort and dialogue with the company, they actually served healthy lunches that the students like! And this was a school where everyone got free lunch.

Some schools prohibit ‘outside’ lunches. Those lunches might be ‘incomplete’ or have too many calories.

I kid you not.

You’re lucky your school still lets you pack your kids lunches.

I have read articles that state that some schools will not allow lunches brought from home because of food allergies, and the concern that the lunches from home may not be healthy. It really is insane.
