PHOENIX - Arizona has a national reputation for hard-core conservatism, but it's inevitable that Democrats will hold sway in the state as the Latino population grows and independent voters surge, a pollster said Saturday.
Jim Haynes, president and CEO of the Phoenix-based Behavior Research Center, said the shift has been slowed thus far by a lack of participation by Latino and independent voters.
"It's just all the population dynamics point to sooner or later - and I'm going to say later, which is to say maybe a couple of presidential election cycles from now - before Arizona becomes a blue state," he told those attending the Society of American Business Editors and Writers' spring conference.

I just don’t get it-—why would anybody in the world support the Democratic Party? Anybody?
I can’t speak for others but my mother’s family settled in Arizona. They moved out there from Texas in the early 20th century. My mother was 1st generation American of Mexican descent. All of my cousins, uncles, aunts who reside in Arizona are very conservative. They despise liberals in general and Obama in particular.
As you said, Florida is a purple state, the panhandlers and the Ft.Meyers area will be republican, but in the I4 corridor it is changing.

Orange County, California is another area that used to be considered strongly conservative. Now, after an influx of immigrants, that’s all changed. The same thing is happening all over the country. And the Stupid Party has allowed and even encouraged it.

I registered independent when I moved because it was obvious the GOP was pushing hard for craptacular
candidates like Romney.
Indeed, I ended up casting my vote for my State's former governor, Gary Johnson, who was the Libertarian Party's candidate.

The Gay Mayor of Houston was on ALL the local news channels last night talking about her civil rights commission she is going to ask the City Council to approve so that no one is discriminated against. She is in her last term so I’m sure it’s going to be full throttle pro-gay issues for the next two years. Helping her in her quest to turn all of Houston Blue are the 250,000 new residents added just in the last three years. Austin is already Blue and most of San Antonio appears to have been annexed from Mexico. So the large population centers are pretty nearly all liberal.

Influx of Hispanics has been going on for many, many years. Is it possible at some point a charismatic Hispanic leader rises and tries to lead the state back into Mexico, ala Crimea??
I’ve found that to be true in Massachusetts. The most conservative activists are often un-enrolled voters.
Good, I would love to see all the red communist RAT bastards in Arizona purged (Kirkpatrick, Barber, Grijalva, Pastor, Sinema) and replaced with true blue conservatives.
Does this mean the pollster sees us taking Pastor's open seat in an upset? That would be awesome, I don't even think there's a Republican running for the seat yet because it's an extremely "red" stronghold. ;-)
Only 2 of them are safe Dem. Two are swing districts and the other is leans-Dem but winnable.
We have a so-called "non-partisan" redistricting commission infested with crypto-Leftists. They did a superlative job of gerrymandering the districts for 2010 and 2012. Hopefully the GOP plays hardball next time.
They always call Sinema’s seat “competitive” but it isn’t.
