U r correct. We r going to Michigan this summer and my husband refused to fly into Detroit, even tho it was cheaper and we could get a direct flight. He is from Michigan and all of his relatives said it was not safe. See tag line...

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is many miles west of Detroit proper, a far suburb, and is safe. Coleman A. Young city airport, near downtown, on the other hand...

Unless Detroit City Airport goes commercial again, he'd be flying into Romulus (Detroit Metro Airport), not Detroit. Romulus isn't a great area either, but the Airport's safe and off of I-94 and I-275 so you don't have to go to the hood.

The thing to remember is that in Michigan, Detroit means the City of Detroit proper. Suburbs do not equal Detroit outside of Pontiac or Inkster.

Although the best part of Michigan is North of Bay City. God's Country.
