Lawyers who are representing former Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter filed a formal complaint Wednesday with the U.S. Department of Justice arguing that black voters in Port Allen are being intimidated, according to WAFB.
As voters head to the polls Saturday to elect a new mayor, Slaughter's lawyers are asking for federal election monitors to be in Port Allen and any other elections that may follow.
Last week, during an early voting period, the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffs Office and the Louisiana Secretary of States Office launched an investigation into allegations of voter fraud in the Port Allen mayoral race.

The allegations of voter fraud and intimidation are almost certainly valid. But it is not white intimidators. And the vote fraud is just a natural part of the environment there. Kinda like trying to get rid of kudzu.

Deedy was recalled back in Nov. 2013 by some 57% of the vote after just a few months
in office. She is now running to fill the remainer of the term.
