Since the 1940s, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt and King Ibn Saud structured the framework for an America-Saudi Arabia alliance, the two nations have upheld a partnership as strategic allies with full diplomatic relations.
Last week, President Obama visited Saudi Arabias King Abdullah at his royal palace. The reasoning behind the Presidents short trip can be summarized by what The New York Times suggested was an effort to mend ties.
The US National Security Council said of the U.S.-Saudi alliance, Good friends sometimes have differences, but they are able to work through those differences. That is the case between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
As Middle East regional turmoil has continued to increase exponentially under the Obama administrations watch, the Saudis seemingly want reassurance that their place at the table remains permanent. However, the question has continually prevailed: Is this partnership in the best interests of the United States of America?
Those of us who hold Western values as an ideal standard and want America to thrive and prosper have compelling and substantial evidence at our disposal to argue the U.S.-Saudi alliance is not only morally wrong but it also results in a net loss for Americas overall strategic positioning in the world.

It should have been terminated a long time ago. Bush made a huge mistake in saving their bacon (oops, how un-PC of me!) in the first Gulf War. We could have enjoyed the spectacle of Bin Laden and Saddam engaged in a fight to the death.
Clearly past time to quash Wahhabism.
The USA has made a deal with the devil. To maintain the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency (and the ability to print money ), the USA need oil to be traded solely in US Dollars, which it is now. OPEC and Saudi Arabia help the USA do that.
Lesseeee, now.....So they’re swimming in oil AND constantly threatened by fundamentalists AND at the same time as the House of Saud is seriously contemplating acquiring nukes....
What to do....what to do...
WHY NOT KILL 3 BIRDS WITH ONE STONE AND SIMPLY *TAKE THEM OVER*..?
bullcrap Obama is selling the ME out to Iran and Syria. This article just plays into the hands of the left. They want to destroy every ally in favor of every enemy.
long past time
That time was September 12th, 2001.
I’m not sure how our oil ended up underneath their sand but our relationship should be redefined to reflect that.
While the U.S. has been a good friend of the Saudi rulers, I do not think the Saudi rulers have actually ever been good friends of the U.S. or the west in general. I believe the geopolitical game they have played has been to keep their friends close and their long term enemies even closer.
Termination is waaaaay past due, and we should also make them send home all our American citizens who were kidnapped!
Way, way, past time.
bkmk
No way, speaking as one of those rare Saudi princes who is only a millionaire and not yet a billionaire, I say keep the U.S.-Saudi relationship going strong. I would say more but I have to go now and beat my wives.
We don’t get our oil from them damned Saudi’s, Europe and Japan does.
Let them deal with the worthless house of freaken saud.
And let them Saudi’s eat sand.
