What’s the Big Deal about Common Core State Standards?
Virginia Free Citizen ^ | April 3, 2014 | Celeste Busby

Posted on 04/03/2014 1:24:52 PM PDT by RightSideNews

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are not “state standards.” They are nationalized, state-run standards so that every student in a given grade, in every state will be learning the same thing at the same time. Promoters of the Standards, Achieve, Inc., Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and National Governors Organization (NGO) would like you to believe that the Standards had input from people in every state. The reality is that they were developed by a 24-member team, with David Coleman, from Student Achievement Partners (SAP), considered to be the chief architect of CCSS. (He is now head of College Board that develops the testing.) Every one of the members of the team had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so the Standards were developed behind the scenes and “under the radar.” They were also developed without the knowledge of local parents and local school boards.

National standards violate three federal laws: Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), General Education Provisions Act, Department of Education Organization Act. Plus, the 10th Amendment of the Constitution provides that:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States, respectively, or to the people.

The U.S. Constitution does not give the federal government control over educating our children. But, the federal government has been intruding into local schools for years with promises of money. The problem is that with federal money, comes federal demands called mandates.

The same way the Welfare State and crazy employment laws have disenfranchised people from working and hiring, Common Core disenfranchises students from Learning...

You posted without reading the article. She’s actually making a very well researched critique AGAINST Common Core for just that reason.

Yes, I have grandchildren who are suffering through the most obtuse and confusing math program I have ever seen. As a math teacher I can attest that
kids will be totally turned off math by this idiocy. It’s a shame because math is not only useful but beautiful.

To learn how we got to Common Core and so much more there is free access to two conferences held recently in Maine and Georgia. Titled EXPOSING THE GLOBAL ROAD TO RUIN THROUGH EDUCATION.

Hear Anita Hoge explain where ASSESSMENTS and Data Collection lead .. Listen to Sam Blumenfeld explain why our students can't read. Charlotte Iserbyt , author of THE DELIBERATE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA, an amazing reference book now available as a free download , initiated these conferences.

Curious??? www.youtube.com/user/iserbyt3DResearch

Turned off for just math? I’ll bet that they’ll be turned off to everything having to do with school.

I had a professor at one time who joked that he introduced new material on tests in addition to the lectures. And there is evidence that the unseen socialist faces who are introducing the Common Core standards are using the standards to front-end the teaching of socialist agenda. This is evidenced by Common Core test questions which promotes the idea that the Constitution is obsolete.

Horribly worded math problems that are hard to decipher the question.
Mandates to show your work AND explain the logic. Explaining the logic is a waste of time for simple issues, only useful when you need to figure out what is wrong with a child’s problem solving method.
They want you to draw everything out when real life requires rapid mental reasoning.
Kids lose points for just solving the problem, even when the answer is right.
Political BS seeps into everything, from science to math.

... But, the federal government has been intruding into local schools for years with promises of money. ...

Justice John Marshall had officially clarified that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, the Founding States having made the 10th Amendment to clarify that the Constitution's silence about things like intrastate education means that such issues are automatically state power issues.

“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

So military training issues aside, Justice Marshall's statement indicates the feds are spending money to bribe public schools to teach socialistic, anti-constitutional ideas, such federal funding arguably state revenue stolen by the corrupt feds in the form of constitutionally indefensible federal taxes.

Re: And there is evidence that the unseen socialist faces who are introducing the Common Core standards are using the standards to front-end the teaching of socialist agenda.

I have seen this in a 2nd grade social studies reading. The reading was on shortages and how there simply isn't enough for everyone. It appeared to me to be a clear set up for Marxism 101. A foundation was being laid for later. Btw, the second grader attends a private Catholic school which threw out their old curriculum that had been producing excellent results and changed it to Common Core.

Many teachers wouldn't let their children become teachers.

The Common Core allows administrators to use this same thing same time stuff as well as other "tools" to go after teachers based on subjective likes and dislikes.

It becomes all "politics".

They are succeeding in making teaching a worse job than working at the Post Office.

My, my, my! I've just spent about 3 1/2 hours watching the videos on this page: www.youtube.com/user/iserbyt3DResearch

I knew about much of this stuff, though not in such depth.

The democrat party should be destroyed. The republican party isn't worth saving. Every president since at least Eisenhower have contributed to this destruction of our country.

Hope others follow your example and watch several presentations. One leads to another and that 3 1/2 hours flew by and was worth while. Thanks

Not sure about other subjects but in math they are teaching children every way but the correct way. It's not only ridiculous but damaging to the child.
