Top 10 States Americans Are Fleeing

#1: New York

New York has led the nation in domestic out-migration since the late 1990s. The New York Post reported in 2011 that "62 percent of New Yorkers planning to leave cited economic factors — including cost of living (30 percent), taxes (19 percent) and the job environment (10 percent) — as the main reasons."

2012-2013 state-to-state net domestic migration: -104,470

There are people transferring to Detroit with some of the big companies like Quicken and JP Morgan but what Detroit needs for real growth is blue collar and small businesses.

Kansas? Deep red; unemployment rate from the mid 90s or late 80s; fiscal health; conservative values. What gives?

Kansas surprised me as well.
Taxes are going up, but compared to other places, not too bad.

What about New York? When I was doing business up there I was finding at least 25 contacts moving to the Carolinas every year.

“Do not come to Texas.”

True liberals do not want to live in Texas, they stay in their preferred blue state. Conservatives in these liberal states are moving to Texas.

People coming to Texas from all over the US and Mexico. They flee the restrictive oppressive big governments of their homelands and come to Texas to vote Democrat like a spreading cancer.

Do not come to Texas. We don’t want any more Democrat voters or Texas will be dragged down into the union/welfare pit with all these loser states.

When out of state friends express interest in the lower cost of living in Texas, we tell them how HOT it gets in the summer, how freezing it is in the winter, and how off the charts the pollen levels are in spring and fall.

Common thread for all these states: high taxes for individuals and businesses, stiff regulatory burden for businesses and decades of Democrats running the state.

I agree with you and would suggest the study missed a couple of other reasons. Pennsylvania, especially Western has a very aged population. Allegheny County has the highest elderly population next to Dade County in Florida. There is an outflow here of the old because of cold winters.

The second issue is they lumped Western PA in with Eastern. There has been strong growth in the population around the Pittsburgh area because of energy, technology and medicine.

I think we will see a reversal in statistical trends over the next two years.

sadly, tragically, you’re right. The idiots flee crap, and then bring it with them.

New York was #1 on the above list. (See top of article)

It had all the many signs of rot: socialism, high taxes, high cost of living, etc.

If the Red States would put a strict work requirement on all financial aid, they would flee en mass back where they came from..

Were the Northerners coming to Texas liberals, why aren't counties like Collin and Denton in the Dallas area, Williamson in the Austin area, and Montgomery and Fort Bend in the Houston area Democrat strongholds? All of these counties are solidly Republican, usually turning in 60-70% majorities for the GOP, yet native Texans are not predominant in these areas.

One difference between Texas and the Southeastern states is that the predominant origin of the migrants to the Lone Star State are from the Midwest and the neighboring states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, mostly from red, or at worst purple, states, whereas the migrants who plague North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida are from the deep blue Northeast, from Maryland to Massachusetts.
