Exposing the Myths of Recreational Sex: Every young person needs to know the following three truths
American Thinker ^ | 04/03/2014 | Janice Shaw Crouse

Posted on 04/03/2014 7:23:44 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

There is a mountain of media out there promoting a phony philosophy about the joys of recreational sex – casual, risky sexual encounters that do not involve commitment.  One need look no farther than the junk advice featured in magazines like Cosmopolitan to see just how pernicious and pervasive recreational sex is.

The time for some straight talk about this sexual trend is long overdue.  Every young person needs to know the following three truths:

Truth #1: Recreational sex has produced dramatic increases in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  Girls who are sexually active in their early teens are twice as likely to get an STD, and about 40% will become pregnant.  According to Dr. Meg Meeker, a pediatrician and author, “[a]lmost half of all girls are likely to become infected with an STD during their very first sexual experience.”  Girls are far more susceptible to STDs than guys because of the biology of the cervix.  And a report, The Cost of Free Love, from Concerned Women for America (CWA) documents the fact that there are now some 49 different STDS.

There is no escaping the fact that we are in the midst of an STD epidemic, with more than 20 million new STD cases every year – the majority of them affecting 15-25 year olds, and triple the number just 6 years ago.  These inconvenient facts go unreported, and supposedly responsible adults still encourage early sexual activity for girls.

Truth #2: Recreational sex leaves young people alone and lonely.  Conventional wisdom says that if you tell a lie often enough, people will begin to believe it.

It means a lot more after you are married. Save it until then.

The physical thrill is magnified at least tenfold with an emotional and spiritual commitment included.

Recreational sex? As opposed to what, Work sex?
Recreational sex is a misnomer really we are talking either sex out of wedlock or sex with random strangers i.e. hookups...
Married couples can have “recreational sex” and is perfectly acceptable .....unless you think any act by a married couple must be an act in an attempt to conceive only..thats work sex

An orgasm is like a sneeze

Not exactly, though, I understand what you're getting at.

Some time ago I read an article which had the info that when a woman "orgasms", a hormone is released which promotes attachment. Now, at the time, I thought, "Oh, that should explain to all men why women get attached so easily." Men are in it for a fun night, but, she gets attached. Well, Mother Nature decided to make it that way. I found it fascinating; but, I find the human body and the way it is set up to function very fascinating anyway -- and, so complex.

Anyway, if you don't want the woman to get "attached" to you; I suppose your only recourse is to be lousy in bed.

While the information in that article is entirely true, I read articles almost word for word like that one when I was in my teens.

I still believe we as parents are responsible for our kids’ behavior-not the government via CPS, not the schools, not law enforcement, or anyone else-it is not their business. Look what has happened because complacent parents allowed those agencies to have control of our kids during the school day-they are learning the mechanics of sex and the acceptance of homosexuality as “normal” in grade school-and if we spank them, or confine them to their room, they can scream “abuse” and someone may take them to a far worse place than home.

I was taught by my parents to actually think, and use common sense. I did take a short walk on the wild side, but I didn’t screw up totally. Kids only listened to reason in varying degrees then, and they seem to listen even less now. If you are a parent, be a role model for your kids, and provide sensible boundaries and discipline-which won’t guarantee success, but there is probably a better chance of it...

And I’m sure the Greeks, Romans, etc said the same thing...

No it isn't. Not if the act is interfered with in an attempt to frustrate its natural result. Any sexual activity, even marital, loses its awesome power when it's reduced to mutual pleasure. For partners to refuse the entirety of the union can only mean that "I want and desire you, and give myself to you -- but not that part."

The message is good, but it stretches to imply that recreation sex causes depression and unhappiness. I’m not saying it doesn’t, but it’s as likely or more so that depression and unhappiness causes recreational sex (especially among girls.)

I agree. I should add I'm 63 and my wife is 66. We have plenty of close and loving moments. Sex is not the cure all. The connection we have surpasses that.

women are hardwired to attach through sexual behavior

This was so patently obvious to me even in high school. Guys looked at a one night stand as a notch in their belt. The girls looked at it as a chance to have a boyfriend. The girls lost every time.

Truth #4: If pregnancy results the girl never walks away unscathed. Three things are likely to happen. 1) She becomes an unwed single mother. 2) She puts the baby up for abortion and spends her life wondering whatever happened to her child. 3) She has an abortion.

All of these results have consequences for the young woman. None of them good.
