A little off topic but pertains to the discussion.
I was an infantryman in Viet Nam. When we came off patrol we were suppose to turn in all our ammo and were forbidden from carrying our weapons on the base EVEN THOUGH WE WERE ON THE EDGE OF THE BASE PARAMETER. I could look out and see Indian country on the other side of the fence. (While we received mortar attacks on occasions, the base itself was never attacked directly, but of course no one could know that before hand)
Some rules are meant to be broken and while we were suppose to turn in our ammo on returning to base, most just kept it. (We were allowed to keep our weapons with us, just not carry them.)
It is like the “no round in the chamber” rule. While it is possible accidents could happen, I wonder how many died those first seconds trying to chamber a round to fire back?
One undeniable truth. As long as Obama and the Democrat marxists are in power, absolutely nobody in this country is in the least bit safe. Unarmed is most unsafe.
...anywhere, anytime, anywhere, not just military base. We train the hell out of most of these folks. They are proficient in the use of firearms and tactics (most). In an active shooter situation, who would you rather have on scene to address the issue, 5 armed local LEO, or 5 armed soldiers?
I'll take soldiers all day.
One sure sign is the increased sales of guns and ammo since Obama and the Dem socialists took power.
On the local radio they were interviewing some older retired Army officer about this. He was adamantly against allowing soldiers to be armed outside of training or warfighting.
He brought up accidents and ‘other’ events but it comes down to he doesn’t trust soldiers to be responsible. He also said its impossible to make a base like Ft Hood completely secure.
Though we will never know for sure, it's a good bet that Obammy and a lot of other Liberals welcomed the news cycle change that comes with this latest tragedy. I imagine our President has had thoughts along the lines of, "oh, thank gawd. Healthcare will get out of the news cycle for a while."
Was it an issued firearm or a private one he sneaked on to the base? I can’t find that anywhere...

Obama is a revolting POS whom I hope and pray dies in disgrace, reviled even by the fellow bacteria inhabiting whatever sewer we choose to force him to live in.
Story goes that two soldier were playing quick draw early on in Vietnam and killed each other prompting the on base disarmament. Sounds like an urban legend but it was the official reason given for the ban on weapons on post.
Loss of liberty alert.
This sounds to me like the Obama gang are scrambling for a way to exploit this event for an unrelated power grab. It might be to attack veterans, or further oppress active duty military personnel. Or it might be absolutely unrelated.

You never hear of stuff like this on a Russian base, they are all armed.
It has been that way since long before 9-11.
Obama has done his best to stop this terrible “workplace violence” by making sure that fewer and fewer people are employed.
That way they won’t be exposed to a dangerous workplace.
He has downsized employment in the civilian sector for the last five years.
Now he is downsizing military employment.
Thatks to Obama there will soon be no “workplace violence” because there will be no work.
Safety? Why not allow conceal carry on post? Still can’t get my head around not being able to conceal carry on any federal facility. That also means ports. If I call on customers who are located in a federal port, I have to leave my weapons home. They DO search your vehicle for weapons. If caught with a weapon, you don’t pass go, you directly to jail!
The shooter was ANOTHER Muslim who got “nervous in the service”?
How would he know ?
When did they make this base an arms-free zone? Under Obama?
