(CNN) -- A suspected shooter at Fort Hood, Texas, is dead, but the situation is still considered an active scene, multiple U.S. officials told CNN on Wednesday.
"There has been a shooting at Fort Hood and injuries are reported. Emergency crews are on the scene. No further details are known at this time," the Army post said in an evening statement.
Fort Hood's official Twitter feed asked that all personnel on post shelter in place. Sirens were going off.
President Barack Obama has been briefed on the incident and will continue to receive updates, according to a White House press pool report. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel also was monitoring the situation.
Deke Jones, with Scott & White Memorial Hospital, told CNN his facility was receiving patients.
"I don't have a number," he said.
Sheriff's deputies from Bell County and state troopers are assisting by securing the area around the post, according to Bell County Sheriff's Lt. Donnie Adams.
Authorities in the town of Killeen, just outside the gates, are also standing by to help, said Mayor Dan Corbin.
"It is unclear what is going on right now," Corbin said. "We have been in touch with appropriate personnel, we are standing by with our police and ambulances, if needed. We are very concerned. Fort Hood is always there for us and we want to be there for them."
He continued: "They are used to dealing with combat situations, and I'm sure they are very capable of handling this."

Someone on FB just posted that her cousin is there on Ft. Hood now for pre-modbilization and he says there is a 2nd shooter at large.
And we know Obama sides with the Muslims.
Looks like they need to put a civilian police substation on the base to protect the military at Ft. Hood.

Last shooting was also soldier on soldier and the motivation was Islamic “Jihad” How is this congressman already so sure it is not terrorism?

I’m with you. I’ll be 66 next week.
At our last high school class reunion we had a great turnout. Over 175 turned out from a class of 364. Considering how man are dead, that’s phenomenal.
As the evening went on we found ourselves all agreeing on a few things. Among them were these:
The educational experience we had is simply not available today, anywhere, at any price.
The type of society we lived in, to include our race relations (we had a class that included White, Black, “Hispanic” and a few I still can’t figure out) were civil, forthright and totally outside the experience of today’s schools.
The damage that has been done is dramatic and I’m afraid irreversible.

The last class reunion I attended was in 2012, and several of my classmates had passed on. I was fortunate to live in the West, where rifles were a part of growing up and classes were offered in the care and feeding of firearms.
Because of where I grew up and what the “political correctness” was at the time, the worst we had to deal with was “newcomers.” No one saw anyone else as “an outsider” and therefore, color was not an issue.
Life was good, and none of us had any preconceived ideas of how we should react to someone who was “different.”
Yeah, I wasn’t think that this shooter is the “Booker” guy the FBI is looking for. I am thinking that the FBI didn’t detain “Booker” when they had him because they thought he might be part of a larger plot to carry out similar actions, involving accomplices. Maybe this Ft. Hood shooter is connected. Maybe not, but I wouldn’t discount it.
