The Demographics Behind the Democrats' 2014 Troubles
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 30, 2014 | ANDREW KOHUT

Early national polling is supporting the prevailing view in Washington that Democrats are in trouble in the 2014 midterm elections. While Democrats are more popular than the GOP among the general public, the party faces a number of challenges in November.

First, there's an enthusiasm gap. Typically, but not always, Republicans vote at higher rates than Democrats in congressional elections. And at this early stage, that seems likely to happen again, perhaps at an even greater rate than usual. One telling indicator came in December, when the Pew Research Center found that Republicans are much more optimistic about their party's electoral prospects than Democrats are. Fully 55% of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters expect the GOP to do better in 2014 than the party has in recent elections, while only 43% of Democrats expressed such confidence.

So, what are the RINOs doing to assure rat victories?

Never underestimate the ability of the republican establishment to create an enthusiasm gap on the right side of the aisle.

In Pew's December survey, 59% rated the GOP unfavorably, while just 35% held a favorable opinion of the party.

This is what happens when a party pisses off half its base.

So, the Dems and the GOPe want another Clinton/Bush match-up in 2016 like we had in 1992. If so, the results will be the same.

When the leadership of the party declares war on the Tea Party, its most devout base, they declare themselves the Democrat-lite party and thus give people no reason to vote for them versus the competition.

Has anyone told the Chamber of Amnesty about this?

Are we seeing a complete flip of the old tendency for the Dems to lose the Presidency, but hold congressional power?

Between 1949 and 1993 the Dems held both houses of congress all but 8 years, where of course they kept the house but lost the Senate...so the Dems had at least one for 44 years. Yet A GOP Pres was in power for 28 of those years.

Now I wonder if that is going to be flipped, where the Dems will get the wave to elect a President, and the GOP, on balance, will control congress.

The Dems managed to do a lot of damage over those years using Congress, school boards etc. If only GOP wasn’t just another wing of the same bird.

But, there is a pathway that grassroots activity can make change. If at least the GOP Congress can get less establishment over time and people stay involved on local and state levels.

Until Republicans stop Dems from controlling the media and the message, they will be fighting for Congress and conceding the White House. Obama’s re-election was an ominous portent of what control of the media can do; with high unemployment and inflation, he should have lost a primary to another Dem (never mind beating a Republican).
