This is the real reason the voting age was dropped to 18 in 1965 (during the presidency of Lyndon Johnson, with both houses of Congress in Democrat hands).

Actually it happened on March 1971, Nixon was president, the Vietnam war, and the draft, and protests were raging........

Nixon won 52% of the under 30 vote, the democrats won 46%.
