Happens often here in NY near Stewart Int’l.
Aircraft line up to land on my jobsite.
Waiting for the day someone doesn’t figure out that those are light poles they are looking at.
They also line up on Orange County Airport just around the corner.
Back when I worked for the Chicago Transit Authority, we used to tell our Rail Supervisors to instruct their motormen not to run into the train in front of them.
Looks like we should have told them to instruct them about bumping posts and escalators, too.
A lot of these wrong airport landings occur at night, when on a visual approach, at a nearby airport with same runway alignment. Pilot will see the rotating beacon of the wrong airport, think its the right airport, and fly to the wrong airport.
