Brewers need a way to dispose of the wet and mushy grains that are a byproduct of making beer. Farmers are looking for inexpensive but healthful feed for their livestock.
So breweries across the country -- including those here in Central New York -- donate their used grains to local farmers. It's free: The farmers just stop by the breweries and cart the stuff away, usually in large plastic containers.
It's a classic example of reuse and recycling, but a provision in the proposed federal Food Safety Modernization Act might bring it to an end.
The proposed rule would require brewers to dry the grains out and package them so they can't be contaminated by human contact. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the change is designed to "provide greater assurance that animal food is safe and will not cause illness or injury to animals or humans."
But the change would require time, labor, packaging, record-keeping and maybe even equipment that the brewers say they can't afford. And brewers argue there's no evidence the current practice is unsafe.
"If we had to do all that, then we'd just dump it in a landfill," said Marc Rubenstein of Middle Ages Brewing Co. in Syracuse. "And that would be a shame because it's perfect for the farmers the way it is now."

It really doesn’t take a genius (or even Biden) to figure out that ANY of these Draconian Measures these idiots try to impose on the rest of us are NOT for the benefit of any one, person or environment, BUT just things that bring the most PAIN to those affected.

The leftover mash would have to be bone dry if used for feed. Many years ago I’d spend weekends on my uncle’s farm, his neighbor brewed a lot of beer and dried the mash to use as feed. All too often my uncle’s cows would get loose and raid the mash bin before it was dry. Drunk cows aren’t a pretty sight.
Between this, the denial of water for irrigation to California farmers, and other actions, you could almost wonder if Hussein’s trying his version of Stalin’s artificially-induced famine on the kulaks. Plus siccing the IRS on the Tea Party, directing that immigration laws be ignored, ignoring states’ referendums which oppose sodomite unions through judicial fiat, and more.
The government is just there to get in the way now. It’s infested with egomaniacal ideologues who want to invade every single area of our lives for no other reason except that they can.

“Distiller’s grains” have been used to feed animals for many years, possibly since distilling began.
Grain products that are 30% protein with relatively high fat content are NOT waste products.
No need to dry it if there’s a big enough local market. Ethanol plants near Kansas feedlots have trucks lined up to get the stuff.
Makes one wonder how the government might be different if it was run by Bill Ayers types from the WeatherUnderground that believe the population needs a major culling.
I wish, but we would need a Senate majority, and even then it would need to be true conservatives and not GOPe, which is what we are stuck with in the Senate for the most part.
Then there are all the implications of having that escaped circus clown Biden next in line. The only thing, off the top of my head, which would make him better, is that hatred of whites isn’t presumably his top priority.
We’d also have to get rid of that white-hating Holder while we’re at it.

There is no alcohol in the mash, its just basically sugar water. It wont have any alcohol til the yeast are added after the mash is long done.
I just dump mine in the garden. But i know other brewers make bread with theirs.
the mash is just soaking the grain in hot water at a specific temp to release certain sugars and enzymes...
Only the little yeasties can make delicious beer...
For all we know, that’s whose running it, those types, backed by Soros money. The only policy in which Hussein seems to take a real, personal, hands-on interest, is anything anti-white. Just think, most of his off-the-cuff, non-teleprompter remarks have been when he’s stuck his nose in some racial matter, always jumping the gun without the facts (the Gates affair, “my son” St Skittles, conniving with Holder to prevent black male students to not be suspended or expelled in “disparate” numbers while “Zero Tolerance” is applied to white students, his new program “My Brother’s Keeper” in which whites need not apply, and more.
I’m pretty sure they’re talking distiller’s grains here, after the fermentation process. It does contain trace amounts of alcohol and sugar, but more than trace amounts indicate problems in the fermentation process for a commercial producer.
So are the republicans in the house going to defund enforcement of this like they did light bulbs?
