This is an interesting scenario and begs the question: Should the US go to war with Russia over a town in Estonia that is nearly all Russian?

I wouldn’t get too carried away. NATO’s a way for Europe to leech off Uncle Sam’s defense dime. What’s the alternative? They’re gonna up their defense spending to match Russia’s build-up? In an alternate universe, maybe...

What is going to be interesting is when Putin annexes part of Poland to protect ethnic Russians there.

1994 Budapest Memorandum in which Russia, the U.S., and the U.K. guaranteed
Ukrainian sovereignty in exchange for its relinquishing the nuclear weapons

It' high time the EU stands up off their lazy socialist butts to do something.
It's their turn to step up to the plate.

And Obama can rot in hell for the passive weakness he's shown.
Homosexual, Cocaine using, Drunk Bastard. A Pot head in the WH. how grand.

Let the European Union handle it. I am so sick of the “In case of war call the US” attitude.

This is an excellent article which should be read in its entirety. NATO has reduced itself to a paper tiger as America is nearing bankruptcy and can no longer carry Europe’s military burden. As our strength wanes, Russia and China are looking for opportunities while our nervous allies are beginning to look elsewhere for safety. I expect that NATO will dissolve along with the will of its members.

European freeloaders must assume responsibility for their own defense. Americans are not willing to shoulder the burden for Europe any longer. Its time the Continent grew up. And if it isn’t?

It will have to live with Russia. That’s a fact of life.

I bet "peace thru strength" will not be the answer by more than a few here. And that peace thru retreat and appeasement will be the answer.

Besides Estonia is way over there, they will say.

Maybe the "Arch Duke Ferdinand" moment was Sevastopol?

I know who poked the Bear while sleeping. It was the weakness from 0bama, and the disastrous five years of his foreign policy.

We could be witnessing the start of WWIII.

Yes.

On another site there was a heated discussion regarding what if California with its love for illegal aliens votes to join Mexico.

NATO died in 1986 when France denied the US overflight rights to Libya.
It died again in 2003 when Turkey denied the US overflight rights as well.

It is a two way street.
Now, when they are scared they want us to fly over in powerful aircraft. Right.

Eliminate NATO and also the European Union!

They are both nothing but roads to a ome world socialist government!

While they are at it scrap NAFTA.

Most Estonians don’t think much of Narva. It’s a slum with lots of drunks, HIV infections, etc. Nevertheless, the Estonias would fight for it. Or try to. But without NATO help, they obviously couldn’t stop Russia. For starters, they don’t have their own air force. (NATO fighter jet units take turns providing patrols for all three Baltics).

Could Putin try to seize Narva, Estonia just as he siezed Crimea? I certainly hope not. But if we don't stop Putin from taking more of Ukraine with diplomacy and sanctions, Narva could once again regain a terrible importance not seen since the Great Northern War.
