It would be awfully hard to get all the pieces in place in only six months. Remember, Zimmerman’s lawyers are well aware of the politics behind such an action and they would make it a point to delay things nicely. Lots of options to do so, too.
Remember McVeigh?
On June 13, 1997, the jury recommended that McVeigh receive the death penalty.
One of his appeals for certiorari, taken to the Supreme Court of the United States, was denied on March 8, 1999.
McVeigh was executed by lethal injection at 7:14 a.m. on June 11, 2001.
That was pretty damn fast considering that:
The time between sentencing and execution has increased relatively steadily between 1977 and 2010, including a 22% jump between 1989 and 1990 and a similar jump between 2008 and 2009. In 2010, a death row inmate waited an average of 178 months (or close to 15 years) between sentencing and execution.
Given that the government's respect of due process has continually waned, and is now virtually nonexistent, I would not put it past them that they would rush this into production
