I was in a similar situation years ago when I got lost and ended up in a bad section of Trenton late one night. A large crowd of “youths” ran out and completely blocked the road when they saw me coming. I initially slowed almost to a stop but when they came at my car yelling “white boy” I floored it - and they all scrambled out of the way to clear the road like magic.
Sounds similar to a Chevy Chase movie I saw many Moons ago!
